Maybe, after China, he’ll go against Europe, and bring all those jobs building cars to the U.S (from VW, BMW, etc.). Just think, for only a few trillion dollars and a wrecked trading system, he’ll get people jobs, making more things that are major contributors to environmental catastrophe.
If trade wars are “good” and “easy to win,” can someone explain this comment to me? “[W]e’ve just got to accept the pain that comes with standing up to China,” says Lindsey Graham. So shooting ourselves in the foot while expecting China to bleed is the trade war strategy? Senator Graham goes on to say, “Listen, [we] got more bullets than they do.” So it’s a “self-inflicted mass shooting” strategy?
No one “wins” a trade war. It’s as simple as that.
Senator Graham’s statement about America possessing “more bullets” than China is "technically correct and specious as well.
The Chinese “economy” is fundamentally different from America’s. It, basically, does not respond to market forces – the State Council and the National People’s Congress are not directly effected by American tariffs – they react only to threats from within – specifically from the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese military – the Chinese population – the “proletariat” – has no effect on the government.
If the Chinese Government feels that it needs to “make a point”, it will “make that point” regardless of it’s effect on the Chinese economy – communist ideology “trumps” economic well-being in China – the long game rules!
As I learned it in school (Okay, I just lost the righties), tariffs were meant to encourage the local populace to buy local goods to encourage and promote local manufacturing instead of buying foreign goods, even if they were cheaper. An example used was having tariffs on shoes, making them just a little bit more expensive than locally made ones. Once the cost of locally made shoes dropped, and therefore the cost dropped, the tariffs were dropped.
I don’t see much made in the USA outside of cars and medical/dental equipment.

Trump is the very model of a treason-loving idiot
And hopefully by now the voters all have had their fill of it
His tweets, his rants, his ethnic slurs, and other such inanities
Delusions by the truckload? Only part of his insanities
His constant licking of the boots of Putin (Dear ol’ Vladimir)
His access to our nukes is quite the thing that we all chiefly fear
A cross between a weasel and the darkest Dark Lord of the Sith
Solution? Let’s enact that famed Amendment—right, the 25th!
