For the longest time whenever I’d turn on an old Star Trek episode it would be the one where Kirk was sent down to some planet to have a duel with a giant alligator.

I must have missed this episode. Greg, I love how everyone in the family plays along with Eddie looking for the time machine. I wish I’d been that inventive when I had kids living at home.

A causal loop is a theoretical proposition that occurs when an event is among the causes of another event, which is in turn among the causes of the first-mentioned event. It is also known as a bootstrap paradox, information loop, ontological paradox, and a predestination paradox1. A causal loop may involve an event, a person or object, or information.

As my Doctor said, “People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it’s more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff.”

They aren’t in a repeating loop, so it’s not a chronic hystoresis.
