Excellent point. How about reparations for what you are doing NOW, Mitch?

The images are spot on. I posted this on another cartoon but I think it fits here as well. Will reparations end racism? No. The only really way to end racism is through education. However, what reparations does do is that it signifies that the United States recognizes, something on a whole we still have not done, that slavery was integral part of the history of this country as well as recognizing the inhumanity and brutality of the institution. It means that the United States acknowledges the horrors of the past and will begin to finally discredit and bury in Trotsky’s dustbin, the exceptionalist and paternalistic narrative that his country still seems to believe is the true historical narrative of the past and that only whites control the historical narrative. This is far from the case and reparations will hopefully go along way towards this. Quite frankly, as a student of history, given the African-American experience before and after the Civil War, reparations is the least we can do.

McConnell is even more evil than T drumph and Gilead Pence!!! Keep your fingers crossed …since you can’t vote against him unless you live in his State ….keep your fingers crossed that he gets voted down. Can’t really see it happening but we can hope… There must be a way that we can legally eject him from the senate for his pure evilness.

You may not be responsible for what happened 150 years ago, but you are still benefiting from it.

I’d be in favor of reparations to those who are right now negatively impacted by racist police, unfair sentencing policies, disenfranchisement and general inequity. But could we afford to pay all those women (and others) enough to matter?

The bill is to form a commission to DISCUSS reparations and what form they could take. It isn’t a plan to pass out checks.

I’d like to see this as a bigger issue to REALLY address poverty, especially with the massive expansion of income inequality.

If we don’t address climate change, it won’t much matter whether the last American a century from now is white, black, brown, green, or pink with purple polka dots.

Love the analogy. But those who take this path as well as follow Trump will be vilified in history.

That “prisons” tag should also be wearing a DEM button. The Biden-authored, Clinton-passed 1994 crime bill has been a significant factor in the massive increase in prison populations.
