I have a landline and no cell phone. (I know; I am hopelessly old-fashioned and behind the times.) Who knew Rat actually had a mother? Or that she would still be on speaking terms with him?

Ulan — you even have to pay for calling your own voicemail!

    (oops, sorry Eddie)

Most companies now, though, allow free calls to other subscribers to the same carrier, which doesn’t help when half your friends are on a different one.

Thanks for explaining Ulan, that’s messed up, you should set congress on the cell phone companies

….sometimes I’m like that with my mom on the phone… but it has nothing to do with cell minutes…

What did his mother expect? She raised a rat.

One even has to pay for receiving text messages. A lot come from the provider, advertising their services. Ah, Capitalism!

minutes are minutes. Rat can save enough from not spending on overcharges and buy a truckload of flowers.

Yeah, but Americans don’t even know there IS a joke. How do the plans work in Europe. Or Canada even?

I’m trying to picture from the font used what Rat’s voice is like when he talks to his mother. High and squeaky?

I have a land line at home, and a cell phone that I only use when I’m not at home. I’ve never run out of minutes.

I was shocked to see that Rat’s mother actually callls him…funny…as far as going over minutes, I have a relative that does that to me all the time, when she is the one who called me…

Whoa! Thanks for pointing that out, I just figured out why I didn’t get this gag! Are you serious that in the USA you have to pay for RECEIVING a phone call?!Wow, what a scam, I am truly impressed. Let’s give a big cheer for free enterprise, US style!

I live in India and we’ve had free incoming calls for about 12 years now. Seriously, what’s wrong with the United States??

Rat’s aunt already died and left all her money to Rat in an earlier strip.

In a later strip, Aunt Claire dies again. How does that make sense?
