Not everyone gets so sentimental about animals who used to be pets.

I used to keep aquarium fish. My favorites always seemed to be the cichlids. Like tilapia. Now when I eat tilapia I think fondly of my old Gorf, Mamph, and Mini-Mamph. Great fish, for animals with a three-second attention span.

We keep a bunch of koi (note background of avatar) and they are, like most imported pet fish, treated with meds that make them dangerous to eat. Entire shipments of fish for consumption have been tossed for this!

First I was reminded of a restaurant near me that has an aquarium. I feel a little guilty every time I order a fish sandwich . . .

Then I was reminded of one of the “Family” sketches from the Carol Burnett Show, where guest-star Betty White played Eunice’s spiteful sister, Ellen. Eunice was reminiscing about her childhood pet rabbit, Fluffy, who disappeared one day, and Ellen informed her, “. . . that wasn’t fried chicken we had for dinner that night.”

I used to really annoy a roommate I had about 25 years ago. She’d oooh and aaah over aquariums in restaurants and doctor’s offices and such. I told her the only interest I had in fish was lunch, dinner, and bait. Don’t think she ever forgave me .

Local granddaughter asked me about the lobsters in the tanks at the grocery store. I told her they were sitting there waiting to be killed. I also told her how they killed them. To this day, she will not eat lobster or hard crabs.

Carp are freshwater fish and that appears to be a saltwater tank. I would be surprised if any carp survived long enough to be cooked and eaten.
