For extra credit, if a pair of socks costs $3, what does one sock cost?

Oh my, had to laugh out loud at that one. Economics: The only class where I literally fell asleep in a chair trying to read the textbook.

The key phrase here is “Mrs. Olsen tried to teach us …” And a fat lotta good that did.

Good luck with those smart-aleck ingrates, Mrs. O. It’s clear they know more than you ever will.

If you took all the economists in the world and laid them end to end they still wouldn’t reach a conclusion

Gee, I can think of a lot more use for economics than I can for higher-level math. In fact, I wish economics were taught more instead.

Lest anyone think I’m being either dismissive of certain types of learning, or overly pragmatic, let me state for the record:

There is nothing more worthwhile or practical than learning just to learn interesting stuff. Or even boring stuff, because it always leads to interesting stuff if you do it right.

Yup. Nothing better than learning for its own sake. And, I hope, nothing wrong with making a joke for ITS own sake.
