Lest anyone think I’m being either dismissive of certain types of learning, or overly pragmatic, let me state for the record:
There is nothing more worthwhile or practical than learning just to learn interesting stuff. Or even boring stuff, because it always leads to interesting stuff if you do it right.
Yup. Nothing better than learning for its own sake. And, I hope, nothing wrong with making a joke for ITS own sake.

Gee, I can think of a lot more use for economics than I can for higher-level math. In fact, I wish economics were taught more instead.
