Yeah, that hurts a kid. My old man played us that way too after he took off, promising to do sh!t with us then never showing up. Never really got over how much that burned.

Where is this located? Just wondering re: going to the Louisville Bats game. Seems like only people who live close would be excited/disappointed!

My sister’s Ex tried this crap w/ his 2 sons, she never let the kids know about the conversation; instead Sis had fun at home party day w/ special treats for the boys. If their dad did show up ..she would prefer it would be a surprise; because she didn’t want them to be crushed emotionally. Yeah …her Ex was a total deadbeat dad & toad… who btw repeated this crap to his new wife & kids… ):^{

…I expect Miles’ dad (OR MOM!!) will save the day, at least in regards to the wrestling. Can’t do much about Kevin’s dad lack of integrity…

I’m new to this strip and although my dad was irresponsible (he tried from time to time but….) hope springs eternal. I’m kind of bonding with Kevin but at least he has Miles to fall back on. Again, hope springs eternal.

This is really sad.

My best friend Gary in elementary school had a Dad just like this. I remember my mom would get a call from his mom that Gary’s Dad wasn’t coming, so I could sleepover at his house. His Mom would take us out for Pizza, video arcade, movie or something. After that happened a few times, his Dad stopped even making false promises to come over. It was heartbreaking.

Are those tears in Kevin’s eyes in panel 3? Poor kid.
