Well, technically Bush started this.(Yeah, I know. Stupid DemLibs always blaming Bush for EVERYTHING)

You remember the $3400 tax credit for the purchase of a Hybrid vehicle? Started in 2005?So Bush was taxing people who DIDN’T buy a Prius, and that wasn’t even an American Made vehicle.

That works. If you buy the Volt, you avoid all those gas taxes. As long as you stay in town, it wouldn’t take much to save $2,000 in taxes.

Roberts didn’t rule it was constitutional AS a tax, he ruled that constitutionally it IS a tax.

The problem is…… It wasn’t written as a tax and therefore cannot legally be a tax. It couldn’t be ruled on as a tax because the tax hasn’t been levied yet, it takes effect in 2014.

As soon as the tax is implemented the whole law is unconstitutional. If not repealed by the Congress after November, the constitutionality will be revisited in 2014.

    Justice Roberts is brilliant.

this is new and different, stupid!an IRS income tax credit for voluntary purchase of something congress approves of, is NOT THE SAME AS THE FEDS MANDATING WE BUY ANYTHING OR PAY A PENALTY TAX.-“conservative Justice Roberts has given congress an OPEN DOOR to mandating Americans buy whatever the elected NANNYs decide in the future…..government subsidized cars, home/flood insurance, ANYTHING!-IMO Justice Roberts needs a mental exam.

    1. The volt is a hybrid, not “electric” But is “plug in” 2. they’ve sold twice as many this year as last. 3. It took and American company, using “Baineconomics” to bankrupt Saab, and several other companies.

Yup, go for MItt, which is “W light”, on brains!

This penalty is a tax in the same way that a corporation is a person — legal language is not the same as ordinary language. Most people won’t pay this penalty because they have purchased an insurance policy. I don’t see how this is an enormous “tax” grab — it could even (in theory) turn out to be a zero “tax” grab, if everyone were to buy insurance. Anyway, most people won’t have to worry about it, and the only people who will have to pay are people who are not responsible enough to buy insurance.

Personally, I don’t much like this whole plan. I think it’s very clumsy, unnecessarily complicated, and a gift to the insurance companies. A single-payer system, funded from, yes, taxes, is much simpler.

But — and a big but it is — there is one enormous benefit to this whole process. I think, and hope, that we have now established some fundamental principles, which even the Republicans will have trouble repealing. Everyone should have health insurance, and the government has a role in seeing that happens. There should be no caps on coverage. There should be no penalty for having pre-exisiting medical conditions. So as awkward as this plan is, we still have made some progress.

“Hearty thanks, Sinjoro Payne, that pretty much sums up Dear Leader’s latest travesty.”With the exception that inclusion of the individual mandate was demanded by the Republicans. Not that you care about actual facts.

1.not one GOP congressional vote was cast for Obamacare.2.the “penalty” TAX when government Mandates a purchase for insurance or a car or anything is not the same as paying tax on property you “own”…3.IMO the Executive Order Prez will sooner than later mandate Americans buy a GM vehicle….see Carson’s article 7/3/12 at www.investors.com …todate the taxpayers have lost a total of $35 Billion….the Treasury owns 25% of GM stock…it is now selling at $19.57 monday closing; to just break even on taxpayer money, a share would have to sell at $53 or more.
