“And so they said good-bye and parted forever”? Either this is the rather cold wrap-up of the whole Quill-Luann saga, or Revelation and Reversal are yet to come. I’m betting on the latter….

Doesn’t look like they’re too broken up – must’ve been “just friends” after all. Even fellas take it harder than this – too unrealistic. It’s like they both think this won’t be a long separation.

This is totally out of character for Quill. He has been portrayed as a person of character and maturity – he saw thru Tiffany’s ploys and kept his bargan with Luann. Now he is suddenly cold and somewhat mean to her.

This whole ending arc is very unrealistic and bad story telling. Unless you’re running from the law no one is going to suddenly leave a multi-year project on ten minutes notice. Nor would time be so short that one has to immediately stop everything and start packing. If an author is going to develope a character and expect his readers to continue supporting his work, then the character has to be consistent.

I agree that this interaction is completely unrealistic. Every relationship in Luann is being portrayed completely unrealistically. Unless this strip starts going somewhere that makes sense, I’m losing interest.

I think someone could write a paper on the reactions here over the last couple of weeks. The comments have become more interesting then the strip itself. There could even be a book in this… We just need a good title.

Quill is all flash and flirt, with no heart or sensitivity. Good riddance. Not to say Luann isn’t just as much to blame. That’s what you get for procrastinating through life.

Carnac the Magnificent predicts: that in the future they will meet up after each are married and have a wild, ravenous affair. And while they are in a lovers embrace Gunther (yes Gunther) Luann’s husband, will shot them both !!! Okay, that will never happen, but it is more exciting that what is goin on now.

What disappoints me (and I’m rarely disappointed, Greg! (c:) is that Luann seems to think the lesson here is to date while the dating’s good, without thinking so much about the consequences. Not the way my wife and I were raised. Am I missing something?

Once again I mention that this arc grew tiresome the minute Mr. Evans decided to write out Quill and that was a week ago. We really need to move on to something more interesting, yes I know Luann is the main character of the strip but he writes such LAME scenarios for her, we’ve already seen this exact same storyline with her with Aaron Hill! I’d be really interested in seeing how Toni and Brad are doing…THEY are the interesting storyline in this strip at the moment!

Hmmmm. Something is not right here. Is this Quill really who we think he is? Or is he older and on a CIA mission? He is too smooth for an adolescent, don’t you think? C’mon, now. I’ve taught teenagers for 45 years and Quill is too good to be true.

Luann and Quill probably just see that there’s really not a whole lot they can do about this except move on. Realistically, they both have lives to live. After all, Luann’s about to get a fresh new start in college. How many new guys do you think she’s going to meet there and probably fall for? Sure, this move sure hurts them now, but sobbing all over each other won’t help. They can keep in touch, but otherwise, this is just something they need to accept and move on. And I think they’re handling it well.

I don’t understand the bitching. This is right along the lines of their relationship. It’s cute, they are doing the repartee thing. Both working to handle a really tough situation thoughtfully with the least damage possible. There’s just no pleasing some folks. They’re both too mature- abnormally so. Passion trumps reason. First love stays with you forever- and it’s both agony and ecstasy. Quill should be running away from home, Luann should be inconsolable.

I’d have never guessed that this would have continued today – unless they intended to get together (as Luann suggested) and complete the goodbye process. But looks like Quill wants to avoid unhappy goodbyes and Luann is just playing along. Puzzling…

If Quill & Luann were in a relationship that included sex, the parting would be extremely difficult. This parting is better and maybe down the road they may meet when both are ready to settle down.

That’s up to you. But when people keep expecting the parameters of the strip to drastically change, anticipate that Luann and Quill will hook up in college in 3 months, or that Luann will actually graduate just because she seizes on Juilliard as her just due, they have only themselve to blame when it’s never Christmas morning and there are no much-anticipated and deserved presents. .If you can accept the fact that there will only be multiple variations of Groundhog Day for most of the charaters, and enjoy those arcs within that framework without expecting or demanding great strides forward, then you can enjoy the strip for what it is. Or bitch about what it isn’t – it’s your choice.

Thanks for pointing me to his blog update. Unlike some of his cheerleaders here, one fanatical priest of his in particular, he knows he’s screwed up. Which shows he’s more honest than his worshippers. Of course, if Luann is his primary source of income, he has no real excuse for neglecting the strip. Again, of course, sceptics like me (or trolls, if you prefer) have felt that he hasn’t been paying attention since 2008.

i like that it’s not all teary and dramatic. i’m sure they’ll miss each other, but why does that necessarily mean they have to have a bawling, sniffling, tear fest?i like how quill’s handling it. he’s keeping it simple so luann doesn’t have the aforementioned tear fest. besides, it’s not like it HAS to be goodbye forever. there’s email and skype. they’ll be graduating soon (theoretically) , so one of them could study abroad for college.

I didn’t say the criticism isn’t justified and that he owes everyone better plotting within the framework. IMO his arcs have become more and more shallow and the abrupt endings and/or deus ex machina resolutions are very unsatisfactory. I certainly haven’t been praising them. .I’d just prefer to criticize those aspects than complain about something I know will never happen. And I don’t think it’s “condescending” to point out that Greg usually doesn’t have something up his sleeve, and that to have expectations like that have been shown time and again to be unrealistic.
