I wonder if any papers are refusing to carry this week’s strip promoting marijuana use?

“I’m Pat Robertson, and I approve this message.”

I think this is a rerun.

Do we all need some down time after last week?1000 comments after 4 days, nearly 1400 by the end of the story arc! This week I predict an average of less than 40.Of course this week’s comments may be more enjoyable to read.

Meanwhile, starting next year, it will be illegal for tourists to smoke marijuana in Amsterdam. You have to be a registered resident. What is this world coming to?

Our local paper printed one of last week’s current strips. It must have been by accident.

That’s not marijuana, it’s a poorly drawn fern. Zonker’s making fiddle cakes.

Hiding it from the kids, of course.

When we prohibited alcohol, we had to deal with the consequences ourselves. Now, it’s mostly Mexico that suffers, and Americans don’t seem to care much about the death and corruption we are spreading.

I am remember when GT did a strip where he was making fun of several social issues in one. One of the Dem presidential candidates had been called out for his many social concerns and there were several characters addressing each of them. At the end of the strip one of the young female characters walks out the door stating, gotta go get my abortion… That was from a few decades back. I hope we can get back to current issues both in real life and in the cartoons. The subject of legal pot has been in the news thanks to Pat Robertson, but I don’t think it is going anywhere, even with his endorsement.

“GBT didn’t treat it [compulsory vaginal scoping] very delicately.”
I wonder just what you have in mind. Is this indelicate subject best treated by hiding the way Texas implements its brutal law?
You raise the old question, How can satire be made less explicit without becoming less effective?
montessoriteacher about 12 years ago
Of course, he was using sarcasm throughout that particular strip…

Zonker seems to have aged rather well.

Now that the trolls are taking a much-deserved rest, I feel free to point out that one of my other favorite satirical strips referenced last week’s DB:http://www.slowpokecomics.com/

All of last weeks Doonesburys were replace in the Tacoma News Tribune. They were cowardly.

Thanks for the link, Kaffekup.
Incidentally, how does one embed this kind of link into one’s comment so that readers can click on a highlighted blue “go here”? Can FriscoLou or somebody tell us the code?

Interesting, isn’t it, that conservative religious types are quite OK with people taking unnatural prescription drugs (like Rush L. and his oxycontin) but are distainful of people using a natural drug, which one could infer is a gift from God.
trapperiveracres about 12 years ago
SURPRISE !! My paper is now running TWO GT strips, one on a young lady getting a sonogram.
FriscoLou about 12 years ago
Can you believe it, between Robertson and Obama, who’s the most progressive about marijuana?
Hunter7 about 12 years ago
Yeah! Medical pot! Fresh and knowing Zonker, organically grown. .
basshwy about 12 years ago
There was a conservative politician here in Victoria, Australia who won office one year by promising he would legalise marijuana once re-elected. Of course, once he wasre-elected the anticipated backlash was sufficient that he was able to justify breaking the promise by saying that the people had spoken loudly enough against the idea. Always irritated me, that one

A 30-year tobacco addiction nearly killed me, and yet that is still legal. Curious. I believe with all of my heart and soul that it is tobacco that should be illegal, and marijuana should be legal -RIGHT NOW!!!
Yukoneric about 12 years ago
I’ve seen marijuana in Russia that was about 12 feet tall. The locals had no idea what they had.
