Mr. Obama needs to realize that we can’t give up oil until we have alternative energy solutions that are viable. Yes, we should invest in research and development for renewable energy resources, but we should not give up oil cold turkey. Mr. Obama has restricted oil drilling on any lands he controls since he took office. He wants us to switch to green energy immediately even though it is not ready for prime time. The result is that Americans are continuing to pay more and more for energy with no relief in sight.
America’s oil shale reserves are enormous, totaling at least 1.5 trillion barrels of oil. That’s five times thereserves of Saudi Arabia! And yet, no one is producing commercial quantities of oil from these vast deposits. All that oil is still sitting right where God left it, buried under the vast landscapes of Colorado and Wyoming.
Domestic production of oil is at its highest ever, and in the Obama years, we have reached a point of importing less than half of our oil for the first time in decades. Domestic leases have increased under Obama, and his administration approved the first permit for a nuclear power plant in 34 years. Obama is not the alternative energy advocate you think he is or that I wish he was. Oh well… I guess the facts don’t really matter here…
Obama didn’t close the Northeast refineries, Big Oil decided that they weren’t profitable enough. And the oil shales, tar sands, etc. aren’t worth dealing with at $2.50 a gallon. When you hit $4 or $5 a gallon, then ALL of the alternative fuels make sense profitably.
The GOP wants to stop subsidizing Green energy, which is at least consistent with their philosophy, but they also won’t STOP subsidizing oil with tax breaks no other companies get. That’s just to pay off donors, a government transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich, and makes no economic sense at all.
A local newspaper story said that speculators add about $23 to the cost of a barrel of oil. That leads to an estimated 56 cents added to a gallon of gasoline. So drill baby drill wouldn’t help that problem.
it can pollute the groundwater of 8 states (GOP states and even they are worried about it, what does that tell you), not to mention the damage the increasing fossel fuel usage does to the environment.
it’s FUN to have flammable water come out of your shower.

Ed Markey’s ammendment would keep oil drilled in America, in America. Voted down by the republican house who wanted to help out the oil companies
