I was about five when, like Max, I swore I wasn’t tired. My grandmother told me to close my eyes and pretend I was asleep. “See if you can fool us.” I slept for eighteen hours! Good thing I wasn’t tired.
My son would always be running. Boy never walked anywhere. But when the pitter patter stopped you could look in the hall and see him curled up with his bum in the air sleeping,
The time when the child is going thru the period when they are giving up their naps is a tough one. If they have a nap, they are up to all hours of the hight, but if they don’t have the nap, they are grounchy grounchy grouchy. Fortunately the transistion passes quickly.
It must be like that with all kids. This happened once in the Family Circus a few stips back. Little Jeffy declared he wasn’t tired and didn’t want to take a nap. But when his mommy checked on him moments later, he was fast asleep. Just like Max.
When my daughter was a baby I could always tell when she was ready for her nap, her eyes got dark and thumb in her mouth, and she was ready for nap nap time.I like one commercial kids are fighting and mom started to yell at them and said now I’m punshing myself take myself to my room for quiet time, the kids looked at her and thought what. So funny. Me I cannot take nap would not sleep at night.
First day in kindergarten, the teacher wanted to prep me for a nap and I was, like: “no way, I have trouble enough sleeping at night, I’m not sleeping during the day.” I kept flat out refusing, so they eventually called my mum and she was dumbfounded. “Kids are supposed to sleep during the day, even when they’re not babies anymore? -well, anyway, mine doesn’t. It’s hard enough getting him to sleep at night”. So no naptime for me. I only started napping during the day when I was in the army and had to get up at 4:45am every morning (half an hour after lunch).

This always was a favorite position of mine as a child! My parents laughed all the time about finding me sleeping this way!

It is really tough when you can’t stay awake long enough to finish a good gripe about not being tired.

My younger daughter is the only kid I ever met who would voluntarily go take a nap.

the statement in our house was that the kids had 2 speeds. full bore/all out or sound asleep. there was no middle ground.

My toddler daughter always hated naps – once I found her at the kitchen counter asleep holding her PBJ sandwich with a bite of it still in her mouth.

Personally, I never liked naps as a kid, either. But by the time college rolled around, I’d grown to love ’em—and still do.
