Holly: So, what do you think? Val: I think Gramma's a SAINT for taking you school shopping. Val: What about YOU, Alix? Alix: I'm going SHOE shopping tomorrow. Val: Ooh...I'm REALLY gonna owe you. Gramma Evie: It's that BAD? Holly: Like giving T-Rex a pedicure.

You’d think a kid would like getting new shoes; but I suppose not.

Not if it involves … (shudder) … sitting still!

Glad I only raised boys. Stuff like that wasn’t an issue.

See, I said Evie wouldn’t get her anything inappropriate. I never bought anything revealing for my grand daughters, and now they’re 15 and 16. I loved getting very girley outfits (sparkly and pretty colors).

Lingeewhiz has it right. Alix doesn’t want to wear shoes at all. The first time I put my 6 year old in sneakers this year after being in sandals all summer, she kept complaining “they’re so tight!”, even when they were tied loosely.

@kreole I raised a boy, too, and it definitely WAS an issue. I dreaded shoe shopping. He didn’t want to be bothered with the tedious task of trying on shoes. He was extremely sensitive about how they fit — these are too loose, these are too tight, etc. etc. If I could have done it without him, I would have. We did exactly that with his clothes for years. If I didn’t make him go with me, he’d wear whatever I bought. Luckily, clothes are easier to fit than shoes.

I never gave my mom a hard time when it came to back to school shopping, not even when it came to shoes.

when i was alex’s age the shoes would come off the first day of summer holidays and not come back on until I had to go back to school! I definitely relate to her, after being bear-footted for 2 months your feet turn into little hoofs! LOL, not much fun squeezing them into … ugh,… shoes!

I DID always like how new shoes smelled. BusterBrown and Hush Puppies….not a lot of coolness, though, LoL…..

@Shortbroad Sounds like my childhood. I still hate shoes and have gotten in trouble more than once at work for kicking mine off.

For those when you were young and went without shoes. I could not we had thorny stickers that hurt.I have boy and girl now adults. My son was no problem with shoes and our daughter wanted extra shoes that’s not needed. Our daughter did not mind going to shop for clothes like Holly.

All through school until I got my first job – ALL my clothes were crudely home made, or from a resale shop – including shoes. One of the first pairs I bought was very expensive (for a HS girl) and I hardly wore it. I looked beutiful with metal heels (copper colored) and uppers of reptile skin. I don’t remember how they felt or fit, but at least they were not someone else’s cast offs. Now I am making my own leather shoes that I cut to patterns we made in a class to fit each foot perfectly. I’ve worn my first pair with a vamp embroidered with silk cord and pearls to many indoor and outdoor events and soles are just nicely burnished. 10th century pointed shoes may look out of place shopping but they are all I’d wear without stockings. I wear pantyhose with heels for a cocktail dress-but I’m planning to learn to do stacked leather for both 13th century and current styes of shoes and make those in near future.

I have always HATED ill-fitting shoes and remember saying that if I ever were very wealthy, I’d have shoes custom made. I am now living mostly on SSA (not wealthy) but having learned to work my own, I am happy! If your feet are comfortable, you are too and if I learn to add height it will be great as I’m a 5’ mini person always surrounded by taller (my kids and grandkids are all taller than I ( 4-12" taller).
