To get an idea how small most asteroids are, Ceres contains almost a third of the Asteroid Belt’s total mass.Of course, belt asteroids are only one part of the total asteroid population. Some of them live in my neighborhood.
there are ways to analyze a meteorite that allow one to deduce its origination based on matching an analysis from said origination.that plus the probability involved that when you blast a object into a zillion pieces that fly in all different directions, if there’s enough energy to reach escape velocity, some of it is bound to find its way to other planets.
