Senorbullwinkle, it sounds remarkably like the Republican health care plan.

Bruce, I wonder if things like Cat Scans, Pet Scans, and a myriad of other very expensive tests and treatments aren’t a part of the reason people rely more on their insurance to pay for their health care.

Health insurance is even available for pet cats and dogs. Could the insurance industry be thinking of ways to sell their services?

Oldlegodad, glad to see an issue on which we two fully agree ! And while we’re talking about restoring the Republic, how about throwing the lobbyists out of the temple and limiting the consitutional protection of freedom of speech to real people, rather than to juridical constructions like corporations (what to do with humanoid robots when and if they appear is a bridge that can be crossed when we come to it - or it to us) and banning political advertisements on television, which serves only to defile both television - to the degree that’s possible - and politics ?…

Sooky Rottweiler says; What’s a Cat Scan? If it’s a scanner to detect cats, I can sure use one.

I bet it was men who came up with this. Old men who don’t like their wives. Old men who only have sons. And no sisters. At least none they speak to.

Why would term limits help anything? You’d throw the good folks out with the bad. You’d take away voters’ freedom to keep representatives they like. Also, instead of giving congresspeople the years it can take to develop expertise on our nation’s issues, you’d just make them more dependent on lobbyists to ‘inform’ them.

Senator and Representatives’ terms are already limited - by free elections.

Term limits were only an electoral ploy by the Republicans to get Democrats thrown out of office because they couldn’t persuade voters they had better ideas.

Now, if you could get rid of jerrymandering in mapping elected offices, you would be on to something. Instead of drawing up safe districts, representatives would have to take all their constituents’ needs and opinions into account. They would be forced to “govern” rather than get elected. We should also have proportional accounting in the voting process and publicly funded elections to get the lobbyists out of the process and allow reps to spend their time on the issues, not fundraising.

Darsan makes an excellent point. I don’t know who should be responsible for drawing up new districts, but politicians and partisans shouldn’t be allowed to be within 1,000 miles of the process. When districts are structured to be a safe Rep or a safe Dem seat, good governance flies out the window and considering the interest of the nation as a whole becomes an archaic notion. Terms limits won’t help anything as long as the system is so corrupted.

    cabrost, thats a ridiculous statement.

Only wickedness can do wicked things. It is not about what struggles people have been forced into, it is the intents of the wicked doers that cause the problems. Dont worry though, God is watching every moment of every second of each creature, good and evil.
