Most effective anti-union propaganda I’ve ever seen (is Mr Walker listening ?) ! If destroying unions and imposing understaffing on vital operations means that Obama and his successors will have difficulty getting their missiles launched, I’m going to have to reconsider my position on unions and unionising (and my father organised unions in the US South during the Great Depression before leaving to fight for Republican Spain, so it’s obvious were I generally stand on matters of this type)….

Of course it’s his (the homeless man’s) fault ! He should be out working at a non-existent job, for wages that are even more illusory. Repeal the 16th Amendment, ban labour unions, and see to it that the unemployed are condemned to, say, 10 years forced labour for the rich - then the country will bloom again - as long as the rich can continue to profit from the resources devoted to the military and the continual wars of aggression abroad….

Mr Obama and Ms Clinton are preparing for war on Iran by claiming to believe that that country’s government is building an atomic bomb to drop on Israel - in what way does this claim differ in kind from Ms O’Donnell’s professed belief that the Chinese are going to invade the US ? With their bipartisan policy of wars of aggression abroad, the two branches of the money party are placing the US - and the rest of the world - at great risk, just as the NSDAP did here in Europe nearly eight decades ago….

I suggest that the so-called «Tea Party movement» is to be taken seriously. There is no doubt that it is being used by people like the Koch brothers to keep their taxes at a minimum and fight organised labour, and by some leading lights in the Republican Party to regain political power in Washington. But just as the Tea Party is being used, it - or rather, its leading figures - are using those who are bankrolling and supporting it to attain power on its own terms. Historical analogies are always misleading, but relations between the NSDAP and such figures as Franz von Papen are perhaps instructive here….

I can’t help but thinking that Ted took his first panel here from a classic locus in Confucian philosophy - Gongsun Chou I 6, where Meng Zi (Mencius) uses the image of the spontaneous feeling of compassion that arises in an observer when a child falls in a well to argue that human nature is good. The following panels show how far we have progressed during the last 2300 years….

Myming, please note that Ted has his character say that he is «willing to fight and die and kill for the US Army». Now I may be over-interpreting the cartoon - despite his naivistic style, Ted is a master of ambiguity - but I suspect that he is hinting here that the interests of the US Army are not necessarily identical to those of the United States (as opposed to those of the class running the show)….

What’s the old adage - if one only has a hammer in one’s toolbox, all problems look like a nail ? Besides, the «nuke’em all» turn of mind allows those running the show to continue the enormous transfer of funds from the poor and the so-called «middle class» to the super-rich and their errand boys : the lobbyists and the legislators they have bought and paid for and the corporate media. The people who are really getting «nuked» are, in addition to residents of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan - and soon, Iran - ordinary people in the United States. The main difference is that many of the latter are unaware of the fact….

Alas, a lot of multiverse membranes will have to be penetrated before we come to the parallel, sane universe which Ted Rall attempts to described here….

The law of unintended consequences. Freedom for people of different sexual orientations is a good in itself - but the assumption that sexual orientation predicts political orientation is naîve and does not correspond to reality….
