    $4.00 a gallon gas didn’t help either.

    I laugh at Americans in the States whining about $4/gallon gas. Try $6.50-$8 in Europe. Why is it so cheap in the States? Government subsidies, of course. You know, that socialist stuff!

    Aren’t elephants afraid of mice?Come to think of it, tiny mice like mammals survive the downfall of the dinosaurs.

    @Harolynne, you’re right in a sense, but to put it another way call it 75% annual inflation in the core commodity that makes everything else go. Kinda makes one pull back on spending. In the case of fuel prices, the “govt subsidy” you refer to is kind of inverted – it’s allowing the oil industry to push off all the externalities of pollution on us, not so much a direct subsidy.

    One of the problems with this economic recovery is that the stimulus packages were all geared toward the corporations. And those entities took the money, then kept it. They did not hire folks as they promised. The did not invest in new factories. They kept it. Giving to the rich never helps the rest of us. Just as reducing taxes of the rich never helps the nation.

    @towerwarlock

    How does the metric system effect the price of gas? Are you saying that if Europe switched to the old English system, the price would go down? That makes no sense.

    Re: The cartoon,, My son was a store manager for a clothing chain which was quite successful. The chain went under when they could not get a loan to buy their seasonal stock though the banks had just been bailed out. The banks just kept the money. They killed the Beast and lots of jobs.

    The GOP continues to show us how government does not work, when they are in charge anyhow.

    They killed the chickens in order to increase egg production. Then wondered why the weasels and skunks that wrote their plan were the only ones left profiting in the hen house.
