A mom I know is determined for her daughter not to grow up “caged” in a feminine gender stereotypes, so no frilly dresses, no tea sets, no princess halloween costumes, etc. She also has a son. She doesn’t appreciate my pointing out that the kid has everything you would expect a young boy to have: construction toys, nerf guns, hot wheels, etc.

@bootsattheboar: I am tempted to go into a long harangue, but I will control myself. Is the girl allowed to choose whether she will have frilly dresses and tea parties? Or (and this will cause everyone to shudder) is the boy allowed to choose?Seems to me the mother is trying to raise two sons.

Max sure hopes she turns into a tomboy with whom he can roughhouse! No tea parties for him!!!

I loved having a daughter after 3 sons – but they quickly converted her into a tomboy while also spoiling her as such a pretty girl, so I only got to dress her in pretty dresses to match mine until she was old enough to try borrowing brothers things… They grow too fast – all in their 50s now!
