Joan: OK...BOTH kids are asleep...the food's still warm...
Wally: To COUPLE'S NIGHT!!
Val: We're just starting dinner...WHY do you need me?
Joan: I'll put the food in the oven...
Phil: Want me to go?
Val: HOW badly is it bleeding??
My 16 year old step daughter and I got into a wicked fight about a month ago. She was so mad at me she blocked my number to ‘punish’ me. Now we can’t text each other, and if I don’t catch her call right away I can’t call her back. I could unblock my number from her phone, but I kinda like this arrangement. It’s much more peaceful this way.
For the bazillionth time, Thank GOD I never had kids!
An installment in Nina Paley’s “Nina’s True-life Adventures” strip showed Nna on the phone with her mother, talking about her recent experiment in placing a “Personals” ad. She tells her mother that she’s met several guys, but none of them were that interesting “…and only one of them as an escaped mental patient, but he didn’t try to murder me…” (with a footnote asserting that this is, in fact, true).
As her mother exclaims “WHAT?!?”, Nina says “Oh, gee, look - is that tht ime? Gotta go!”
In the last panel, with a guilty smirk on her face, she’s hanging up the phone and saying “Gee, I hope I never have kids…”
(BTW: Nina’s brilliantly-quirky animated film, Sita Sings the Blues (based on the “Ramayana” and featuring wonderful songs by 1920s/30s blues singer Annette Hanshaw) is, due to licensing issues, available for fully legal download. I really recommend it.)
llorraine: Where is the 16 year olds real mom.
I think its great Phil is wanting to get involved with the kids, although he can’t tell them what to do only the parent can, just give assistant.
I don’t have problems with my kids blocking me on my phone, when my daughter was younger if she wasn’t home at a certain time I was hounding her by calling alot and she new she was in trouble.
I still like SS. At times I do laugh at the antics.

My step daughter’s real mom bailed last year. She doesn’t initiate any contact now. My step daughter does have her dad and myself though (when she isn’t mad at us).

Neither of them WANT the relationship to progress – they like it the way it is. (Holly and Alix disagree, but they don’t get votes.)

Phil should just run while he can. Come to think of it, Wally should too. Joining the circus sounds like a better option right now!

Love Val’s last comment! Sounds just like my Mom. “Get off the rug, get OFF the rug!” is now a favorite family quote. :)
