You get used to “foreign” remarkably fast.

Have a great trip and enjoy yourself. I wonder if this strip is takin place close to Thanksgiving. Just curious how do some of you cook your turkey’s. There are some I heard that do not have turkeys they substute with something different. My mom years ago used to bake a turkey in the oven then dad started one in a smoker and since then that became a tradition using a smoker for turkey’s. I won’t use a fryer I can’t have the fat and who ever cooks it has to be carefull due to catching places on fires. For sweetpotatoes I don’t use tradtional marshmallow but a crumb topping with nuts.

kab2rb, this is way off the story line, but would you share your recipe for crumb topping - for those who aren’t allergic to nuts - we don’t go the marshmallow route, so it would be nice to have an alternative. Yours sounds interesting.

I like to serve mashed sweet potatoes with butter (or sub), basil, and garlic, salt and pepper. Very delish, no added sugars at all!

yes, yes, I second the request for the recipe for squash with crumb topping with nuts! or however it was worded…
Marshmallow is absolutely superfluous. The squash is sweet just all by itself. Thinking of the two of them together makes me want to choke.

Okay and if this is too late I will put the receipe in for Tues. It called Sweet Potatoe I got this from Arkansas from a sister-in-law and now I don’t even use a receipe here it is:
What ever number of sweet potatoes you will use cooked add little butter different places and spread this portion in a cake pan or glass pan.
Next seperate bowl you will need 1 cup to a 1 1/2 cup of flour you can use wheat flour, soft vegetable butter, brown sugar and pecans. My sister plans to use almonds. Mix together until crumbly may require either butter or flour. Spread mixture on top of sweatpotatoes in cake pan. Put in over at 375 degrees bake about 45 min. to 75 min but after 30 min. check to see when top is light brown. You don’t want to burn. This will serve a family.

I like to mix orange juice, orange peel and grated ginger into my sweet potatoes.

kab2rb, sounds good, saving that one :) I like to slice up the yams and bake them with only salt, pepper and a bit of olive oil drizzled over, then serve with créme fraiche and garlic cheese spread beat together as a sauce, that’s pretty good too.

In a previous strip she said the people (plural) she worked with in Africa invited her, so there should be a few she knows.
