I heard Obama’s speech and although I thought it was a ridiculous attempt to be funny the idea of a moat was received favorably by MALDEF. Evidently too many Mexicans are being injured falling from ladders. The news of the moat was especially favorable when Obama assured MALDEF that the alligators would be toothless and could be bludgeoned to sell as boots on the American side.

What Obama was doing was making fun of the Republicans who are trying to make illegal immigration some kind of hideous invasion. The idea of building a moat is simply hilarious – considering that others have proposed a wall. Yeah, that worked so well for the Romans and the Chinese. Benson’s also worked in a sly reference to the water shortages and fights over the Colorado.

There are five things the TeaParty Republicans want

    1. Smaller Government

    2. Less Federal spending

    3. Lower Taxes

    4. Power to the states.

    5. And more action from the Feds on border security now!

It would probably be Mexicans that dig the moat….

Piranhas or Asian flying carp would be much better than gators in that moat!

SJ: that’s not all they want. In our State Legislature the there are two buildings the legislature uses. One, the building where the chambers are along with quite a few of their offices. The other with fiscal, research, IT, and the rest of the member’s offices. They are separated by a street. Thirty years ago a pedestrian bridge was built between them. In rainy weather you can walk under the bridge. In sunny weather you can walk on top of the bridge.

One of the baggers in the leadership has decided that the $6 or so million saved by not funding teacher’s aides in public schools or by limiting Medicaid or some other small gubmint issue, they can now afford to build an enclosed bridge so they, the staff workers, and most importantly the lobbiests can walk dry and air conditioned between the buildings. Oh, and they are going to put “displays” for the travellers to observe on their jaunts between the buildings.

And, along with their small gubmint efforts they are attempting to disregard all of the security and ethics efforts put in place to make sure their precious email is not hacked and is not mixed in with their private business email because it was those rascally democrats who put such things in place.

Yessir, them baggers is a right smart bunch. I guess the idea of limited gubmint is only restricted to everyone but them. Me? I haven’t needed any gubmint at all since I got away from the one that made me go to that little asian country and help to kill all them com’nists…

Is it irony that the toon depicts exactly what the Colorado looks like where the bed crosses into Mexico? Yes, the Rio Grande does have more water at the border than the Rio Colorado. It’s about those golf courses and yards in Phoenix and Los Angeles those “hispanic” gardeners are paid sub-minimum wages to mow.

^ Look, people, if you want to grow lettuce, why do you plant it in the effin’ desert instead of doing with what God (Nature) gave the land you bought?

The major treaties effecting the lives of South-westerners the most are between the States, US & Mexican, over water rights to The Colorado & Rio Grande, & involve federal governments, DC & DF, as little as we can get away with. You ain’t gettin’ enough of our water for some silly moat.

@Simon_Jester – If that were true we’d have no disagreements. But one can’t have “smaller government” and more government intrusion into people’s person lives. They’re directly contradictory. If one says, “well they mean smaller as in spending” it’s not possible to do that and be world police.

    ^ Three words:

    1.Terry

    2, Schiavo’s

    3. Law

That’s how much the R’s really want government out of people’s lives.
