Calvin reminds me of a psychotic friend I once had. In his own mind he meant well but. …

The pool should be a little bit smaller than the garden, but Calvin will not get ready with this!

That’s a pretty big hole for a little guy. I’m impressed - but then, it’s not my garden.

If the ground’s that hard, it needed to be dug up anyway. It’ll make a better garden – next year!

I don’t think “surprised” would cover it Calvin. Now if you spared the garden in putting in your pool, Mom might have only been surprised….but I wouldn’t bank on that.

    Good Morning, Marg, Mike & ♠Lonewolf ♠.

They’d better pool their resources and come up with a good story for Mom. It’s sink or swim time.

Nabuquduriuzhur - LaPine, Oregon? I go through there quite often - only I call it “La DeadPine” because of all the die-off there - remember the bark beetle?

To expand on sandfan’s clever puns: Their explanation had better not be too shallow or Mom might go off the deep end. Calvin does call a spade a spade. Can you dig it? The handle is a bit long for Calvin, though.

Once mom discovers your work, I am sure a burial plot might come to mind as a way to make use of your digging.

Stuart Gathman: I think you’ve met my husband, “The Weekend Warrior”, he put a hole in the main water line, and took out the cable line when taking down a tree! Oh, a man and his “backhoe”! The men and boys and the size of their toys saying comes to mind about now! ’

Climb up the sides in your bare feet, Calvin! Then you can call it a ‘piggie bank’! I hope they don’t ‘levee’ a fine on me for that one. I already was ‘taxing’ my brain to come up with it.

We actually did this. Digging the garden was hard, so we hired a guy working a backhoe nearby to come and dig it for us. He lost sight of his mission and we nearly lost sight of him as he dug deeper and deeper, what in Sam Hill got into him I know not but he made the hole so deep he couldn’t get his backhoe out

paperpete – insanity is a very delicate subject hereabouts. (i’m typing this with my nose because the kind guys in the white coats had to put this really constricting jacket on me.)

I do not think Mom gets surprised very easy any more, but when you find a hole like that in your garden? But if he spent all morning doing anything she should have heard warning bells every where . Nobody watching this bag of energy all morning?

Well, at least the hole’s shallow enough that it can be quickly filled back in again … after mom kills him and then hides his body there … then she can plant a nice vegetable garden in that same spot and the authorities will be none the wiser!

Does this little boy have a death wish? If I had done such a thing at his age I would have been given such a hiding I wouldn’t have been able to sit down for a month. My sister and I were struck with whatever my mother could get ahold of at the time, and she took the brunt of it usually. Thank You Jesus, that her life has been a good and satisfying one beyond those outrageous years….

paperpete69, why of course I expect a response. Are you trying to tell me that Calvin and Hobbes aren’t going to listen to me and respond? Does that mean that Santa and the Easter Bunny aren’t going to really bring me gifts and treats?

I’m with Cleokaya: If Calvin doesn’t listen to me, I don’t know what I’ll do. I might have to tell my brothers to quit yelling at the television during football games, my sister to quit yelling during horror flics …
