As far as this comic is concerned, why does anyone have to enjoy it the way some people think it should be? Why can’t everyone evaluate and understand it whatever way suits their fancy and proclivity within the realm of Sense and Sensibility? …To Each His Own!

Calvin suffered through six painful weeks to get his beanie. Somehow, I don’t think the thought of waiting 60 years before he can sleep all he wants to will be an appealing prospect.

Here is an old favorite of mine :

‘Son, Get up ! It is time to go to school.’

‘But Mom, I dont want to go to school.’

    ‘Why ?’

‘The teachers hate me. The kids tease me. I really dont like going to school.’

‘Whether you like it or not, you better realise you have to go to the school. You are the HEADMASTER !!’

What I say to my children in the same situation: If you can’t go to school, you’re sick. So stay in bed the whole day, no visits of friends, no computer, nothing but porridge and tea… That helps!

    G’Morning all.

Sorry to read some of you are having a grumpy day.

I love the comic strip and all the characters just the way Bill Watterson sees them. He gives me a smile every morning. What a nice way to start the day.

@LuvH8, Perhaps you didn’t read the comments yesterday. There was some controversy about how Calvin and Hobbes should be perceived and understood. Unless there are inappropriate or obviously incorrect comments, I’m inclined toward a ‘live and let live’ stance toward the comic. Let everyone ‘call them as he sees them’.

Good one vibjyor! I was thinking of the same one. I was also reminded of the boy who after going to bed, called downstairs, “Daaad!” The father replied, “What do you want?” “Bring me a drink of water,” came the reply. “NO! Answered the father, “Go to sleep!” About 10 minutes later this same exchange was repeated. And again. After the 3rd time the father added, “If you ask me again, You’ll get a spanking!” Another 10 minutes passed. Then, “Daaaad!” “What now?” “When you come up to spank me would you bring me a drink of water?”

If one of my kids had said that to me in that tone of voice, his arm might have come out of it’s socket as he left the comfort of his bed and hit the floor. Hmmm, maybe that is what happened to Calvin.

Calvin would have to be tested to see where he is at. The teachers may not think he is any different from other kids just a big dreamer. Calvin sometimes I know how you feel Monday is always a busy day evan at a job.

At this point, it doesn’t really matter if you skip school. It’s later on when you’re old enough to figure out how to successfully skip school that you wish you hadn’t done it when you’re older, which Calvin will never be.

Bring your beanie for Show & Tell, Calvin.

Puddleglum2 ~ Thank you! I didn’t read yesterday’s comments. And I agree that everyone should be able to enjoy or whatever the strip as they choose. I prefer comments that are respectful to others, even when disagreeing.

It’s amusing how serious people can get about the content of a comic strip. Exaggeration is the tool of choice. It’s what makes us laugh. I love Calvin, even when he’s flushing his baby-sitters study notes down the toilet (or threatening to).

One of the nice things about being an old guy is that you can tune in Melissa Scott at midnight and watch her and then go to bed at 1:30 am or so. When I went to school, nearly almost irrespective of age, I had major trouble staying awake for my morning classes. My outlook is this: “Civilization begins at noon”…..

I was like that all the time as kid. Then one morning, I couldn’t open one of my eyes. It burned. My Mom inititially didn’t believe me because of all the nonsense I was historically pulling during wake up calls. Ended up going on a prescription for these terrible burning eye drops. Little bumps on the inside of my eyelid had scratched my cornea. Not fun.
