Rent a video player? Wow. this is old. Today, Roz would have texted Calvins parents and they in turn would have texted him to KNOCK iT OFF!

@Calvinator Good observation. In today’s world you probably can’t rent a video player, much less a videotape. Perhaps if Calvin were in today’s world, he would be too busy gaming on his X-box to bother Roz. :-)

I find his demands very reasonable. She is a lousy babysitter. She lost control of the entire night, because she voluntarily blabbed her weakness, and now she has totally lost control of herself, and of the situation, therefore she lost any authority she ever had, so clearly, Calvin wins. Give the kid a pizza.

In the recesses of my mind, I remember seeing VCR’s for rent at the video store. Way back when, they were expensive before the prices came down to 2 or 3 hundred dollars, which was still a lot after a number of years, and not everyone could afford to own one.

Now wait everyone Rosyln doesn’t have to cave in to Calvin just outwit him. Calvin just open the door come with me with my notes and we can oder the pizza on the phone as I’m getting hungry just yelling out you and we should not be yelling. Talk long enough to gain Calvin’s trust and hopefully he will open the door and come out thinking he has won. But then after comes out Rosyln can grab her notes take him to his room then shut the door on him. When parents come home tell them about the demands.

I used to rent video players way back when in the late 70s and early 80s … before I went and bought a “Beta” machine from a buddy who was moving. Worst mistake I ever did …. Was constantly having to do maintenance on it myself. Still have our “older” VHS unit at home, and didn’t get rid of my old Beta machine till about 2001. But I still have some of those old Beta tapes hanging around …. I would dearly love to get them converted to digital format. Some good stuff on them. BTW, my wife made me “dispose” of my copy of “Cannibal Stewardess Vixens Unchained” because our college age kids kept wanting to watch it …. LOL !

i, too, remember renting a VCR. on a trip to Vermont from a town a 20 minute drive from the cottage we were renting. we had to drive back again because the piece that was needed to hook it to the aerial jacks wasn’t in the box and there was no cable connection. i still have two VCRs at home that are used on a daily basis to record shows i want to watch when i get home from work. i see no reason to buy new technology simply to improve the bottom line for some mega corporation. if the old tech still works, i still use it.

Calvin really does not know how precarious his position is. After flushing two or three pages of notes that toilet has got to be pretty stopped up and one more flush might just land He and Hobbs in a flood of unexpected deep doody… what will he do then ????

Calvin you are selfish. You should ask her to make Tuna fish Sandwiches for Hobbes. Tigers don’t like pizza. (besides you don’t want to be trapped in a small room with a hungry tiger).

Rosalyn is not a “terrible babysitter.” She is a cartoon character, created as a foil for Calvin, who is just as imaginary. His actions here are not those of a six-year old.

My husband and I are right there with you on that one!

While we did break down and buy a dvr player a couple of years ago when one of our vcr’s crapped out on us, we still have 2 other (vcr’s) that are used quite frequently — especially if we aren’t home and there’s 2 (sometimes even 3!) programs on at the same time we want to watch later on when we’ve got more time.

Calvin’s parents don’t own a DVD player? How old is this strip, anyway? Here’s what the kid should do - while Roz is downstairs ordering the pizza, Calvin should sneak out of the bathroom and put the not flushed notes back in the stack on the bottom of the stack. Then he should go back up to the bathroom and lock the door and appear to capitulate to Roz. Then, when his parents come home and Roz starts whining about the notes, she’ll find them and the look on her face should be priceless…

@PappyFiddle We have high-speed internet but no TV feed or cable. All we have to watch are what comes in on the roof antenna. My son mostly watches movies, I am content with the free network stuff, around here that includes about 10 traditional network channels when you count the digital variations, 3 PBS stations with their variations and an outstanding independent group of channels - want to watch Indonesian sit-coms, operas in Russian, Swedish cop show, News from Korea or France, Japanese talk shows in English? you name it, its on there.

I have my own TV, because my husband doesn’t stay on 1 channel for more than 5 minutes anyway…except when he falls asleep…

Now back to Calvin - I wonder how he plans to get out of the bathroom. If Roz were smart, she would just say, “fine, stay there, I’ll fix popcorn for myself.. because if she doesn’t know what she needs by now, last minute cramming probably won’t help.”

Why does Calvin always have to spend the entire time he is being “baby-sat” in his room. That’s nuts. His demands are not at all unreasonable (I have limited knowledge of renting video whatevers, but still) – what’s wrong with pizza, what’s wrong with paying a little attn to him? She’s nasty, she’s always been nasty, and I’m glad to see him get some leverage for once.

Write down his demands and place them in an autobiography. Rosalyn will get millions from her Horror Tales of Babysitting! Problem is the little stinker may ask for part of the royalties.
