Just be patient, we’ll get there. Remember Hilary care? Haven’t we already implemented several components of that? People can only handle a little change (good or bad) at a time – frog in hot water. It won’t be long until the frog is cooked.
People can be very open to change so long as it’s presented properly. So many of the Bush Administration policy changes were very detrimental to our country, but were accepted by the public as a whole because they were presented positively.
By contrast, the insurance companies made d_mn sure Obama’s health care reforms were presented in the worst possible way. By now it shouldn’t amaze me that some people are stupid enough to believe “death panel” BS.
Kenny - no, we haven’t… unless you count having a bureaucrat determine your care and not being able to choose your doctor. Insurance companies’ profits have gone up as fast as their denials of claims. It’s the ultimate racket - being in the market to sell something that market forces can’t affect.
As Fareed Zakaria said in this week’s Newsweek, America’s fatal flaw is that we can’t fix problems unless they get to crisis state (e.g., financial crisis, 9/11, Pearl Harbor, etc.). The problem here (as well as with Social Security and other looming matters) is that the crisis is imperceptible. So Americans prefer for their politicians to kick the can down the road for their children to handle it.
Of course, these problems only get worse with time.
As a DOC I have not identified a single push by insurers. The insurance folks are part of the problem (the adminstrative cost of practice). There are real savings to be had with Tort reform and enforcing existing immigration laws.
The 800lb gorilla is/are the Hospitals but they have been only indirectly considered in the legislation. The American Hospital Association must have put Obama through school or contributed to his campaign or know where his trancsripts are.

Proof positive that if you say something enough times some people would believe it was true….hence the cartoon.
