That’s not FL. Idiot governor turned down $2.4 billion in federal funds that went to other states.

I love the idea of a high speed rail passenger service, but it would take a dedicated set of tracks to be feasible. Since the first railroads were built using a lot of illegal Chinese labor, maybe this time we could use a lot of illegal Hispanic labor. Do they have a union yet?

The States will likely prefer their congested highways to an efficient rail system.

Show me an example (by your definition) of an “efficient” road or air system and we’ll talk.

Kalifornistan couldn’t build it efficiently, it would not run efficiently if run by the government and/or unionized labor and the state is so stinking broke that they’re trying to let 30,000 + jail inmates out because we can’t afford to keep them or build new jails for them.I know that the effort to legalize Pot was defeated in the last election but so was sanity and common sense when the unions put Moonbeam Brown back in office because the toro caca coming from his office sure makes it seem that he smokes it.

and all: check your local transportation systems and you will find that the BEST systems only get 20-40% of costs from the fare box. The rest comes from taxes. I AM IN FAVOR OF THIS SYSTEM! Peak service busses and light rail take a lot of pressure off roads, parking, transport for the poor. and on, and on, and on!

The LA to Vegas rail makes sense actually, it’s an update of the old “bus” premise- go to Vegas in a $25,000 car, go home in a million dollar train!

If the politician looked tired, wispy and smug, this could be our Nevada senator Harry Reid dreaming of a fast train between Las Vegas and an exciting small town on the west end of the Mojave desert.

Well if we need to find the tax money to subsidize high speed railways we are going to have to stop subsidizing the oil companies and airlines.

And it would be worth it just to stop looking like a third world country to all the other industrialized countries who laugh at our railroad system.

We used to have a fairly efficient passenger rail system. They were called streetcars and interurbans. Unfortunately, the Depression and the increase in car ownership eventually put all but a few out of business.
