It’s a Chinese ship owned by Mitch’s sister-in-law, so, it might be republican terrorists after all.

None of the above. It is a huge ship, but not insanely so. And the other panel is ridiculous, though if you call “structural racism” an unwillingness to retrofit a working bridge to make it safer, then maybe half okay (no, I cannot see that as the definition)

What actually happened? We’ll find out sometime pretty soon. What could have prevented it? At least big honking concrete islands protecting the support that was impacted.

No Tugs….Why? They are standard procedure in a harbor with a bridge.

Surprised it took this long to start (continue?) the conspiracy angle. So many ways to spin this.. could be Joe deliberately set this up so he could give Baltimore a new better bridge. From trump’s side, terrorism always gets a good response.

What, exactly, is “structural racism,” and what does it have to do with an out-of-control cargo ship smashing into a bridge pylon and bringing down the bridge?

Shouting “racism” at everything makes it harder to address actual racism. “Chicken Little” is supposed to be a cautionary tale, not a way of life.

What amazed me about this bridge disaster, is the fact that decades after the Sunshine bridge disaster where a ship smashed into the piles, they never installed large dolphins to protect other bridges from the same fate. Add on the fact that they used to escort ships out of the Baltimore harbor with tugs, but the shipping companies complained they did not want to pay those costs and the tug escorts went away. This shipping company should have to pay a hefty sum to the families and to replace the bridge.

Ted, trying to make sense out of the garbage peddled on Musk’s “X” platform will drive you insane.

From VOX (I do a lot of crap, but I don’t do “X”)

The same conspiracy-theory-peddling personalities who spammed X with posts claiming that Tuesday’s Baltimore bridge collapse was a deliberate attack have also called mass shootings “false flag” events and denied basic facts about the Covid-19 pandemic. A Florida Republican running for Congress blamed “DEI” for the bridge collapse as racist comments about immigration and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott circulated among the far right. These comments echo Trump in 2019, who called Baltimore a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess,” and, in 2015, blamed President Obama for the unrest in the city.

This disaster will be, like the Titanic, a ridiculously over-analyzed topic for another year or so. Political points will will be attempted by the Right. SIMPLE EVENT: Ship or pilot lost control while too close to abutment. Any large ship plowing into that abutment would have damaged it enough to cause the bridge to collapse. That abutment held up the entire side of the bridge. I have seen, ad nauseum, over the years repeated new discoveries about the cause of Titanic sinking: brittle rivets, the keel was weak, you name it. The ship simply hit a BIG iceberg at high speed, and sank.
