I’ve heard that hard of hearing and deaf folks really hate it if you give up trying to communicate and say “never mind.” It feels really rude to them to be dismissed and not included.
Husband has trouble hearing for decades. He won’t go for a hearing test. He is always complaining to me that people speak too low and don’t speak up. When we weekly have (since start of Covid) “Friday Midnight movie date on TV” and “Saturday night date night movie on TV” he has the volume ALL the way up.
Between that and the fact that watching the TV (a smallish big screen) hurts my eyes as it too bright – I sit and watch the movies both nights with anti glare glasses on and my shooting range ear plugs in my ears.

I am hard of hearing and I am constantly telling people, including my wife, “Don’t yell, enunciate.” Make note of that Hector and Carlos.
