We used to spend a lot more money funding our higher education and education in general. But that was when taxes, especially property taxes, were higher.
My parents were teachers. Dad worked summer jobs and even had a part-time job at times. They really don’t pay teachers what they are worth, especially with the dritt they tolerate.
The GQP’s assault on our educational infrastructure is another front in their master plan to bring back the “good old days”, which to them is the time when there were only kings and their subjects.
it’s priceless that after all that effort he spent rubbishing claudine gay, his own wife turned out to be a plagiarizer. what goes around comes around… ☺
I’m still outraged at the way Professor Claudine Gay was forced out as president of Harvard. Republicans in Congress laid a trap for her, criticized her for supporting free speech, and then others pretended to use false information (“plagiarism!” no, she was cleared of that) as an excuse for her to step down. They’re not even trying to be subtle anymore: pushing out the first woman of color to be president of Harvard, who will now go down as having the shortest term of office in over 385 years. The racists must be gloating over this.
Remember those old public service ads exorting people to “give to the college of your choice” with the slogan “college is America’s best friend”? Now we have the right wing attacking higher education as “grooming kids” (whatever that means) or having a “liberal bias”. With fewer people donating, colleges are more dependent on big ticket corporate grants and gazallionaire donations.
Of course, the gazillionaire wants more money and resources to go to the football and basketball teams. Less for such frivolities as art or literature.
This why I am glad that many of my state’s (California) community colleges now have accredited 4-year programs. It is a less costly approach. And honestly, I am not that impressed with the IVY league colleges.

Republicans believe that everything needs to be privatized.
And everything needs to be for sale — including humans.

Too many people think that because they’re good at one thing, they’re geniuses at everything.

Far too accurate to actually be funny. and, it’s amazing how these rednecks get degrees while refusing to learn anything.
