Ever since the rise of the TEA Party, which gave way to the TrumpubliKKKan MAGA cult, today’s Republican Party has become incapable of being governed. John Boehner couldn’t do it. Paul Ryan couldn’t do it. Most recently, Kevin McCarthy couldn’t do it. The last Republican speaker able to keep his party together was Dennis Hastert and he turned out to be a serial child molester (so, maybe Matt “Venmo” Gaetz — if they don’t expel him first?).

In contrast, Nancy Pelosi led the party for twenty years (2003-2023) and was speaker for eight of those years (2007-2011 and 2019-2023) and she did a great job keeping her party together. And Democrats, too, have to walk the tightrope of internal squabbles and competing interests (Black caucus, Hispanic caucus, leftist PROgressive caucus, moderate Democratic Leadership caucus, conservative Blue Dog caucus). The difference is that Democrats know how to act like grownups. They hash out their differences, make deals, make concessions, understand that compromise is not a dirty word, it’s how you get things done and, yes, make bipartisan deals across the aisle.

Nancy Pelosi is gone now, and a new generation led by Hakeem Jeffries is at the helm and he, too, has maintained an organized and cohesive Democratic minority despite the wide range of differing viewpoints and competing interests among them.

Republicans say that “government is the problem” and when they get elected they sow chaos and devastation to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Then Democrats get elected, govern responsibly, clean up the mess left by the parade of pooping Republican elephants and make government work.

If there were 10 sane Republican reps, they could vote with the Dems and put Hakeem Jefferies in and we would have functioning government again.

Six rational moderate/centrist GOOPers have to fall on their swords for the country and negotiate with the Dems for one of them to be supported if nominated. Best possibilities is one from a district that Biden one.

The alternative is to let the House become more dysfunctional so that even the densest MAGAt could understand what is clogging the sewer pipe known as the GOOP. We would all suffer the consequences but there would be a chance to have all three branches Blue in January 2025.

The Dems will still have to learn better marketing and self-promotion as well as learn how to fight. The Red traitors still control the narrative.

Sorry, Michelle but the “when they go low then we go high” is a strategy that leads to being shot down. Need to get down and dirty when trying to eradicate an infestation of vermin and cockroaches.

Of course the irony here is that gaetz went after mccarthy for daring to work with the democrats, then gaetz WORKED WITH THE DEMOCRATS! to oust mccarthy. He depended on the Dems votes to succeed in his coup.

Steve Scalise is going for speaker. He was shot once, think he would learn. Oh, a Republican, no ability to learn.

According to CNN.com, there’s currently a tussle going on among House Republicans to succeed Kevin McCarthy as Speaker. Really? Isn’t that like a bunch of GIs all arguing among each other about who’s going to go on the night raid carrying the bright light and wearing the white uniform that has “Shoot Me First” emblazoned on it?

There’s no requirement that the Speaker be an actual member of the House. It could be any citizen, elected or not. And, given the corrosively partisan, pugnacious nature of all the current prospects for the job, maybe a neutral honest broker is just what the nation needs. I hereby nominate a couple of hard-headed, results-oriented, reality-based pragmatists — who have the added advantage of being willing and able to throw in a little pointed humor from time to time — Judy Sheindlin or Bill Maher.

I’m tired of all the weaseling labels being applied to them. I just call them the fascist wing of the Republican Party. That is what they really are. It’s hilarious yet sad when their followers refer to Dems as “far left fascists” who they believe are being led by ANTIFA as if that’s really a thing…

Boehner learned it the hard way. So did Ryan. Now McCarthy. And some are claiming Hakeem Jeffries wants to be Speaker? That’s just insane.

Is anybody at all surprised that two of the major actors in the current Republican “mine is bigger than yours” farce are Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz?

All of this GQP insanity is tied to the corps and mega rich distracting the citizens, so they can get the laws and policies they want passed.
