They gave their all. We will likely never know if agreed with the reason for the or the leadership that directed it. We haven’t had a war since WW2 that the objective was clear and that the objective was to “win.” We didn’t. That does not tarnish their valir of those who served. Only the failures of the leaders who got into those wars shamefully wasteful of American lives.
Do any of you political zealots in this comments section, who spew your hate daily, know how to just say Thank you and let it go at that? I doubt any of the veterans who died were thinking anything political as they took their last breath. So Thank you to every man, woman and service animal who has died serving our country, and to their families left behind. They gave their lives for our freedom.
About four months before General Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House, President Lincoln wrote to a mother who lost all her sons in the Civil War. The letter was delivered to Lydia Bixby on November 25, 1864. By the end of 1865, it is estimated that 620,000 soldiers had given the last full measure of devotion to their cause. Although, the true number of those killed will never be truly known.
We need to remember the horror of this episode in American history because there are forces that would push us into another bloody conflict for no other reason than their greed or personal quest for power.

Dear Madam,
I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.
I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.
If you notice a penny on a gravestone, this signifies that a person has visited the headstone. It’s an act of gratitude for the person’s service. Anyone can leave a penny, whether they are a family member, friend or fellow service person. If there is a nickel on the gravestone, this means that the visitor who left it went to boot camp with the person buried.Next, if you see a dime on their gravestone, that signifies that the visitor served with the deceased military member.Seeing a quarter has a particularly heavy association. If you notice a quarter, this signifies that a previous visitor was present when the soldier passed away.
A# 466 is correct. MAGA world is trying to end democracy in the U.S., along with our Constitutional Republic. In honor of those who gave all, tell MAGA to F**k off today.
You might want to re-think just what “freedom” means. Offhand, from this side of the fence freedom is being severely thwarted, especially down South under republican governments.
I respect the military. Serving your country during wartime is honorable. That said, no war in my lifetime (I’m 67) has been fought for my liberty. No soldier died for that.
Hey Brandon, good job on the Afghan withdrawal and adding those 13 U.S. service members to the score…ya know, the same ones that you were impatiently and repeatedly fidgeting with your wristwatch while the flag-draped caskets were being solemnly returned home and presented to their grieving families…yeah, buddy…
One of the most disgraceful holidays is the one some stores celebrate with the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. White Sheet Sale. Are they providing regalia for the KKK?
T**** said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed.
A#466: On any other day your comment would not bother me but on this day how dare you sully the memories of the men and women who saved this nation and given you the freedom to be a jerk!!!!! Politics and politicians do not belong on Memorial Day!!!

When President Donald Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018, he blamed rain for the last-minute decision, saying that “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and that the Secret Service wouldn’t drive him there. Neither claim was true.
Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed.
Thank you. Was tending graves over the weekend; although none of my family made the ultimate sacrifice in war (all of our veterans came home, thankfully), we noted many graves where the death dates made it clear they came home wrapped in flags. It’s good to honor them, and to bring our children along to make sure they keep the tradition going.
