I’m congress, I’m going to enact a nice sounding bill called “NO BAD THINGS”. And in that bill I’m going to establish a regulatory body with policing powers whose sole mandate is, to eliminate BAD THINGS, without saying what exactly those are or what it will entail to achieve. The regulatory body is run by the executive branch with the full power to make laws… er regulations… that if someone is found in violation of, they can be fined or put in jail. It’ll start small. Just trying to make sure to identify a “BAD THING” and work towards removing it. But over the years, and in order to stay relevant and receive more and more funding, it will continually update its mandate and pass more and more regulations, until it’s not just trying to eliminate all “BAD THINGS” but also mandating ONLY GOOD THINGS are happening everywhere, always. But not just things that are actually happening but things that might happen too. And if something might lead to a BAD THING, make sure they stamp that out with the full force of the federal government.
All without having congress having to actually pass a law that says what is a bad thing or what the consequences are for doing it.
Is it true that DeSantis celebrated this decision by taking a now protected whiz in the Everglades? Or does he do that for fun all the time anyway while thinking -
LOOK OUT! There’s another boa constrictor on the loose! Tee hee hee!
It’s appalling when Thomas or Alito or Roberts act shocked that people are calling the legitimacy of the Supreme Court into question. The conservative justices twist logic past the breaking point to justify their ideological based decisions. Some justices have done appalling breaches of legal ethics. A complete lack of regard for stare decisis by the conservative justices. A day could be coming when the supreme court loses its position as meaningful part of the checks and balances and it would have no one to blame but themselves.
The EPA thought it was the Dept of Agriculture and had grown out of.control. It ws growing out of control. Maybe some Round-Up was needed as well? No worries, mate! It will grow back with time.
I live in a coal state. Ten’s of thousands of folks don’t have safe, reliable drinking water. That number will get worse now, thanks to this decision to reward rich donors.
How DARE the conservative majority of the SCOTUS pare back the powers of an agency founded by the greatest Republican of all time, Richard Nixon????
Yes, the EPA was founded with the signature of Richard M. Nixon. And though I was sarcastic in the last part of that statement, I think I would trust HIM more than any of the current slate of GOP candidates.
No government agency should be above the law and restrictions imposed by the Constitution. The leftists here show how much they are against the Constitution and rule of law with their Marxist ideology. Their words in these forums show this to be true.
The Kern river which is often dry is considered navigable waters under EPA jurisdiction as several hundred years ago one could travel part way up it from San Francisco Bay by canoe. definitely a bit of overreach on EPA’s part. They also claim jurisdiction over land around a manmade cattle pond that if it overflows connects via an manmade ditch to a creak to a river which reaches the ocean
Back when SCOTUS had a liberal majority, the Repubs whined that the court was legislating from the bench. Now that this conservative court is clearly doing exactly that, the Repubs have no protest.
I agree with Martens.; Ms. Benson seems to have somewhat of a philosophical change in how she views what is going on in the United States. Somewhat more fact-based.

I’ll take the positive meaning here though I don’t think that is how it was intended.
