Instead of things getting easier, they are getting harder and more complicated. Even talking to people doesn’t help as they are trapped in following a bubble chart or blaming the computer. For example, I want to make an autopay and it asks for the name of payment. Heck if I know, it won’t say and no one has a clue. So I called a person and they set me up and I still have to go online once a month to pay.
If there is ONE thing that infuriates me is talking to a computer and never gets what I’m saying….BOO HISS! People in this world are getting lazier and dumber
I miss the days of glass bottles and paper bags, but I still can hear the tree huggers carping about deforestation and recycling. Save the planet by “recycling plastic”. I’m thinking we had better luck with paper bags.
I went to spectrum for internet, landline, and mobile. Mobile to be free first year. They sent me a phone, it wouldn’t activate. First they told me return it, then they said drive to Spectrum, 3 hours away, so I did. After hours of being there the guy told me it won’t activate, to drive it to FedEx, another 2 hours away. Left at 9 am, got home at 5 pm. Then I was told to get another phone at Spectrum before the other one reached the warehouse so I could get the free line. So I did, back again on Monday. Got it set up and they are charging me $30/month PLUS a $50 “restocking fee” of the first phone. Got someone who felt sorry for me and gave me a $25 credit, which the manager removed. Already got my first bill for two months. Complained again and got something put on my file NOT to give me any credits…blackballed! Used to be customer service, not anymore.
There was a program called ELIZA decades ago, which imitated the style of questioning of a therapist. It was actually very simple, I created a similar program I called Dr. Kookoo. It’s amazing how much people will react to such things. Today there are programs like Replika which seem far more advanced in conversational skills, but are really just massive “brute force” examples of something quite similar, with some refinements that have nothing to do with true intelligence. If you know how to give an AI a good Turing Test, most will give themselves away very quickly — but most people will be quick to believe they are talking to something with actual “artificial intelligence” even though it’s just a hopeful name.

I always thought we’d have robots, but more like Rosie from the Jetsons, not Gort!
Okay robots, just remember… we-have-all-the-water!

The only exception I prefer is my car transforming into a giant robot in case someone attempts to carjack me
