Actually, that’s probably closer to the truth than anyone thinks.

The survivors will be the hearty folks that can make fire, kill/butcher a deer, make shelter and grow food…..you know, hillbillies.

I pulled out my Zippo once for some shrink tubing and someone asked me why I carried a lighter when I don’t smoke. I replied that it’s for this purpose and that I’m a Scout. If it wasn’t a lighter, then it would be a flint or ferrous rod and the back edge of my knife. “Knife?” he asked.

Yeah, the big gorilla in the room that nobody talks about is the radioactive fallout. The fallout would continue to be at immediate death levels for months. Some few might survive if they had well stocked shelves in their shelter or cave. BTW, Caves do give about 90% protection, esp if you cover the entrance with cloth or tarp to retard infiltration from fallout and go far enough back to not be in direct line to the entrance. In any case, it is a grim reality.
