You can make pretzels in all different shapes. In fact when I was in the 5th grade, we each got to make a soft pretzel and we could do what ever shape we wanted. A couple of girls whose last name started with S made S-shaped pretzels. I made a twist. The teacher did want us to first make a regular one. Then we could undo the dough and do what we wanted. They didn’t turn out too good though. Our teacher couldn’t find that coarse pretzel salt so she just used regular table salt. Then she overbaked them so they were too well-done on the bottom so they were were like eating a rock.
