I just lay there eyes closed and breathe as evenly as I can.

Try breathing in, then breathing out. That usually works for just about anybody.

Back when my life was excessively stressful, thinking about breathing stressed me even more. I was concentrating way too much on getting it right. I’d end up holding my breath in anticipation of starting a perfect breath sequence. Sleep deprivation taxes intelligence greatly.

It seems generally, it is much easier for a man to Not Think About Anything than a woman. Women are always thinking about something. The thing is to try and pick the right topic to ponder.

Trying to fill in details of happy memories, and when lucky the broad picture shows up in dreams, sometimes with the missing details. Seldom get fully aware that I’m dreaming though.

Sometimes I make up a happy story or replay a favourite event or rewrite a sad movie I watched, in my head to get my mind off things
