Dill, I think I sense the smirk and soft giggle of some older brothers in the distance.

Acorns are okay if you shell them and soak them in cold water for several days to leach out the tannins, then dry them out and grind them into flour or roast them whole.

    Acorns go well with squirrel.

Dill took a swipe at Petey’s nemesis, Ernesto, the crossing guard.

Some Native American tribes used to subsist on acorn flour.

Score one for Dill’s imagination. It looks like Alice is stepping back down to the ground at the end.

My sister was a school crossing guard. Glad she survived and retired from the danger.

Come on Dill, the monkey children are only on the monkey bars.

Dill spins a wild yarn, and the thing that gives Alice pause is acorns? Not wild children with monkey feet and tails? I guess you are unconcerned about wild childs when you are one.

On another note, I applaud the feral kids culinary acumen. Acorns and squirrel is a natural pairing, and would go well with a nice Chardonnay, or in their case, a white grape juice.

Gotta respect Alice’s flat response to one of Dill’s wildest flights of fancy!

Or is what Dill heard true?!
