The rightie-tighties all fail to notice that the military said they took care to prevent the balloon from gathering useful intelligence at the military sites. The military knows how to do this. Back in my nuclear weapons effects days, the Defense Nuclear Agency wanted to simulate an explosion over a (replica) missile silo. The operation had to be timed to avoid Russian satellite observation. This involved covering the site up with essentially a very large tent before and after the large explosion.

So compared to that, hiding stuff from a balloon borne probe trundling along at speeds of less than 100 kts is easy-peasy.

The military jammed radio signals. The military is good at that when they need to be.

As for optics (cameras, etc) , we have lasers. When I was involved with tracking satellites with lasers, we could not light up unapproved satellites without having to explain to the State Department and getting shut down for months. But that little package on the balloon. In US airspace! Fair Game! Cameras would be dazzled with lasers at more than one wavelength. Dang, I wish I could have seen it.

So no, I am not worried that the Chinese got much in the way of useful information.

Yep, that’s what China said and the US military tracked, analyzed, jammed, then took down the balloon so they can get a hands-on with the remains.

Do you think they’re as worried about all of the spying the US does on China? Or is that OK just because it’s US?

We know from the wreckage that the Chinese spy balloon had engines and a rudder. Why does a weather ballon need these? And that it descended to a lower altitude approaching Malmstrom AFB and other sensitive sites. China is lying through its teeth when it claims that this isn’t a spy balloon. So is Brandon when he carries water for his Chinese masters by telling us that no intelligence was collected.

Maybe we all should keep in mind that Chinese culture is not western European culture and should not be taken as such. I might recommend Michael Pillsbury’s book The Hundred-Year Marathon. At the very least, this should serve as a wake-up call for us all.

There isn’t any intelligence that the balloon could gather that isn’t already being gathered through other methods by the Chinese. China launched four modern spy satellites last year alone. Therefore, the purpose of the balloon must be for some other reason. Monitoring the balloon, instead of blowing it out of the sky immediately, was the correct course of action. Despite all the arm-chair quarterbacking.

Intel docs show proof of China spy balloons during Trump’s presidency in 2019

According to statements over the weekend, the Trump Pentagon never informed the president or other White House officials about the spy balloons.

An April 2022 report from the U.S. Air Force entitled “People’s Republic of China High-Altitude Balloon” details that the Pentagon found a China spy balloon “circumnavigated the globe” in 2019, which was while Donald Trump was president. According to the report, the balloon floated around 65,000 feet, and “drifted past Hawaii and across Florida before continuing its journey."

That was the same year that a report surfaced out of Tibet that India witnessed a spy balloon over their country.

The documents say, according to CNN, that a spy balloon was “launched and controlled” by China in 2019, which proved to them at the time that they were capable of navigating such a machine across the U.S.

Trump would probably want to nuke China if they had told him.

Don’t forget, Orange Traitor kept secret that he has, it would seem, much of his actual wealth hidden in China, and prefers to pay taxes there to help China’s government function, than to the USA, where he has committed himself to making America’s government as dysfunctional as possible.
