‘Just revenge politics – that’s all we’ve been hearing about these past few weeks.
And as always, it’ll all come up to the wire and somebody will flinch – somebody that doesn’t care if he’s reelected (he was going to retire anyway, with a enormous pension and, free Obamacare!)
The imaginary ceiling will be raised, and everyone will fist bump and yell, “Voila!” as if they had laid the golden egg.
Orange Traitor’s lack of response killed millions. It’s a fact that a med student (from PH’s link to an opinion article) with a political agenda will never grasp.
Face it Bok, there isn’t. The debt ceiling is merely a tool conservatives use to manipulate politics because your party lacks the strength and character to get anything done.
Tell me again how governing by highly-emotional, unfounded, vengeful, political, gut-feel decisions with no connection to reality are going to make America stronger, safer, more resilient, more unified and more prosperous.
Of course there is no debt ceiling, the law establishing the debt ceiling was in conflict with the Fourteenth Amendment the day it was passed, and that has never changed.
Bunch of nonsense intended to provide political theater from day one. And that’s all it is.
It is meaningless. Constitutionally speaking, “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.” 14th Amendment.

Why does it matter so much now?
It’s never mattered before.

There’s shouldn’t need to be a debt ceiling. You’ll note, if you do the websearch, that other nations see no need for it.

Republicans added 20% to the debt with their tax breaks for rich people.
They defunded the IRS so there will be little tax collection.

The ceiling was raised three times in Trump’s four years.
And it wasn’t like the deficit exploded during those four years or anything, only 25%.
.
Something to be weaponized and LIEd about by Republicans. Like every other issue.

There really isn’t. It’s an artifice that performs no role. Like an appendix. Or a Republican in Congress.

Dems have always complied w/ GOP request to raise ceiling.
Perhaps, this has been a mistake…
