The lunatics are now officially running the asylum. It’s going to be a Long two years- tho with luck, many such as Gym Jordan, et al, may be arrested and charged with sedition, or, Santos, for multiple frauds, and thus give control of the House back to the Dems. One can but hope.

When Marjorrhea Traitor Greed was voted by a majority of the entire House (not just Nancy Pelosi), it was a bipartisan vote and it was because she had threatened physical violence against multiple fellow members of the House. It was for cause; for very specific, very serious cause.

When the January 6 committee was formed, Speaker Pelosi asked Kevin McCarthy to nominate Republican members. Pelosi accepted all of his nominations except for those who were possible witnesses, which would make them inappropriate, and asked McCarthy to offer alternates just for those individuals. McCarthy threw a tantrum and withdrew all of his nominations in protest. Wanting bipartisan representation, Pelosi then chose from among Republicans willing to serve and who did not have a conflict or personal involvement.

Still acting like a political middle-schooler, McCarthy now wants to play a game of revenge, and remove long-standing intellectual heavyweights (Schiff and Swalwell are both previous federal prosecutors with many years of experience in the Intelligence Committee and Ilhan Omar, the only House member born in Africa, is appropriate for the African Affairs committee). The Intelligence Committee is a select committee, so McCarthy can act alone to remove Schiff and Swalwell, the experienced prosecutors. The African Affairs Committee is a standing committee and to remove Ilhan Omar would require a vote of the entire House, and a number of Republicans have already said that they will not play that game.

In the 1950’s McCarthyism was Joe “Tailgunner” McCarthy.

    Today, McCarthyism 2.0 is Kevin.

Both equally ugly. Both equal threats to our Constitutional democratic republic.

Yup. Extremes on the right or left are all still extreme and have to be kept out of key assignment.

Ken Burns and other political documentarians are making sure future historians have an accurate account of how right-wing superstitious ignorance and associated hatred and bigotry infected and undermined the United States of America.

This country is doomed. Some people have hope because of the youth, but they don’t even pay attention.

To republicans “Extremism in the defense of rage, hatred, and violent overthrow of the government is no vice. Moderation in pursuit of revenge against the libs is no virtue.”

the sad think is when Democrats get in power they will not give committee assignments to half the Republicans in retaliation, it is a slippery slope to end of this experiment called America

Only the GQP reward complete incompetence with committee assignments. The IQ of the people in the districts that elect these bottom of the barrel losers to congress must be in the low double digits.

George Scamtos is reportedly going to step down from all committee assignments.

U.S. Representative George Santos, who has admitted to fabricating much of his resume, told fellow Republican lawmakers on Tuesday he would not serve on committees for now, lawmakers said.

House of Representatives’ Speaker Kevin McCarthy said the freshman lawmaker asked if he could recuse himself from his committee assignments while he works to clear up an ethics cloud. McCarthy called it an “appropriate decision.”

“The voters have elected him,” McCarthy told reporters. “He’ll have a voice here in Congress. And until he answers all those (ethics) questions, then at that time, he’ll be able to be seated on committees.”

The embattled congressman has faced calls from fellow New York Republicans to step down over fabrications about his career and history.

Santos, who announced his decision in a closed-door meeting with fellow Republican lawmakers, has rebuffed calls for his resignation, saying he would vacate his seat only if he loses the next election.

I don’t see why people see a problem with Mr. McCarthy specifically. Granted, he’s a spineless toady, but who else would the R’s have put there? Yes, there were protests, but no one else got more than 20 votes. If Republicans were to grow a spine and get rid of him, there is no one else left with a conscience or a brain or a willingness to adhere to their oath of office.

Actually, I think this is a good thing in the long run. The R’s have two entire years to show how incompetent they are. They have worked so hard at perfecting grenade-throwing, stalling, and disinformation-spreading that they have no idea how to govern. They’ve spent so long voting against their constituents’ interests, it’s quite likely they don’t have a clue what those interests are.

The fact that this awfulness will last two years should be enough to convince most anyone who is willing to try to think for him/herself that this is a clown show that needs to be shown the door. It will be interesting to observe how Fox News, the propaganda arm of the Republican party, will twist itself trying to justify the continual depths that the party will be plumbing. They’re pros at it; they’ve had decades of experience, but this class will provide extra challenges.

    Game on.
