This comic is indirectly pointing out what I think the real problem is: The system (if you want to call it that) for keeping track and handling classified documents.
I would be willing to bet cash money that many past ex-Presidents and VPs over the years have found classified documents mixed in with the documents packed when they left the White House, and that they were subsequently returned to the National Archives with no fuss and no one trying to make it into a scandal.
Excellent point I would go back to at least LBJ’s to search from there former Prez and staff and all senators and congress persons. I would I would. Where do you think Trump Dump got a idea could get away with keeping classified and pushing the envelope further.
Oh. I expect they will get around there. The guys would do well to start searching before the FBI descends on them, especially Dan Quayle. That dodo brain could mislay the Statue of Liberty.
A friend of mine, when stationed in South Korea in the 70’s, handled classified technical documents. To update them, they sent replacement pages which he placed in the binder, and removed the out-of-date pages, still classified, and transported them to a central station to be destroyed. One day he went into town and bought some fish and chips. The fish was wrapped in some of those old classified pages.
It’s truly amazing how old documents are suddenly turning up in the possession of people tRump would consider to be adversaries. First Biden, then Pence. Who’s next? I doubt Junior Bush would be considered worth targeting, but possibly Clinton; more likely Obama.
I’m just waiting for The Donald, miffed that all “his” precious classified documents have been taken away, gets himself a set of custom-made stamps that say “classified”, “top secret”, etc., which he can use to stamp otherwise unmarked documents and mount them next to his fake “TIME magazine” covers.
Trump steals documents, refuses to return them, hides them, disobeys a court order to return them, claims to de-classify them, and after they’re removed by the FBI, demands their return.

How come nobody missed them in the intervening years? Why Clinton and not the Bush’s 1 and 2?

The thing is when these people say “Uh-oh”, “Crap”, or “D’oh”, they mean it and follow procedures for correcting the situation.
