That’s why we keep debating foregone conclusions, like the climate crisis.

History doesn’t necessarily repeat, but it certainly does rhyme.

That’s the whole idea. By constantly “debating” these toxic ideas it gives them gravitas. America was borderline fascist BEFORE Mussolini. It has been mostly fascist since Reagan.

“Land of the free”? MY A.R.S.E.! We imprison more people (numbers and rates) than any other country on Earth. We have the most draconian legal system on Earth.

Communist/fascist/hereditary ruler could conceivably all produce positive results, the problem is that power corrupts and usually attracts people who are already corrupt, so these systems are almost guaranteed to fail. The advantage of a real democracy (unlike Russia etc.) is that you can get rid of corrupt and dangerous idiots like the one who got elected in the USA.

I saw a political cartoon back when Saint Ronnie was President where he was portraying Lincoln. A director was saying “OK Ron, in this scene, you free the slaves!” And Saint Ronnie said.“I free the WHAT?”

I have frequently noted on here that reagan began all this. His speech in which he described American democracy as being “the enemy” was traitorous. His idea that OUR government, the people’s government, being the enemy began the steady march to facism by the Republican party. There would never have been a Trump if there had never been reagan.

In the 30’s, with the election of FDR, wealthy people attempted a fascist overthrow of our government. A retired Marine officer, Smedley Butler exposed it. No, I did not make up the name. His parents were sadists. As I remember, among the rich were the Dupont and Remington families, among others.

Fear is a powerful motivator for good or evil. We see evil using it all of the time cultivating it and nourishing it to grow into dominance.

Every generation faces a fight with fascism… however it currently masquerades itself.

More simply put: If you hate democracy, vote Reptilican.

Left wing fascism (yes it’s a real thing) is entrenched in the Democrat Party.
