Going down from an F to a G

She could make a career in politics, she seems a natural!

Q: What’s with this F on your report card?A: It means fine.

i don’t understand this.. she is so smart.

I think Lucy’s intelligence is getting overlooked here.

But lazy…

A pony can read your mind but cannot read writing.

She is smart. She just refuses to see any other viewpoint other than her own because she is above all that. She is the student who will argue that the math book must be wrong for 2 or 3 hours or more instead of doing the 20 minutes of math homework including the time to check her work. She developers her own little world where she just simply knows everything she thinks must then be correct. So she results to changing her grades. Often with a Sharpie

I remember a report card in HS. everything but french was in the 90’s, that was in the mid-80’s and my dad could only say “what happened in french?” no praise at all for this otherwise great card. I never showed him a grade again. EVER.

I had no trouble getting good grades in school. I was fairly smart but I also enjoyed learning new things — that’s the part a lot of kids miss — enjoying learning things. Our problem was that our mother always introduced my sister and I as I was the smart one and she was the one with personality. By the time we were in high school neither of us was functioning very well (although we seemed to). She spent much of her time living up to her personality reputation and feeling like she wasn’t smart and I spent my time avoiding things I knew I wouldn’t be good at and frantically trying to learn everything on my own because when you are “smart” people don’t answer questions except with comments like “Don’t you know that already?” “Why are you asking me that? You’re the smart one!” and every little mistake you make is loudly noted, “you missed three questions on that test? Really? Where was your mind?” “Is that the best you could do?” This was a time and a school where test grades were written on the black board so everyone knew who got the best and worst grades and teachers would go down the list noting who did better and who did worse than last time. It took me years to realize that being smart was realizing that no one knows everything and really smart people ask questions to learn more — sometimes even ‘dumb’ questions.

She doesn’t care about her grades. She’s going to quit school and start her own business anyway. Probably several

It’s no use crying over spilt grades. An F is a stinker by any other name.

Whereas I was not what you’d call a trouble maker, like Danae here, I, too, had poor grades in school, but was rated as having a high IQ and scored very, very high on the SAT.

You could read Danae as a alternate form for denial. That seems to be her montra in any situation that depends on tradition and conformance. She’ll eventually get it done in order to survive but it isn’t in her nature to go peacefully.

I’m betting it’s a surprisingly good report card.

Just don’t tell her it’s ‘raining cats and dogs’…
