Also, at least inform the kids of what you’re going to do and where you’re going, so to at least keep them in the loop here and what the rules should be.
Len, it’s the Monday of a new comic strip arc. It’s just about a guaranteed certainty that Abby’s going to make it home before you do. The only real question is whether she’s going to be earlier or you’re going to be delayed by some (likely unfortunate) event. 9 to 1 odds on the latter. And only The Shadow knows what mischief will proceed from the hearts and minds of the children in the interim.
When I was young, I was left alone as early as 8 years old. I was what was called a “latch key kid”. We learned to fend for ourselves without burning down the house or fighting (mostly). We had broken the glass window in the door and was in the process of repairing it when mom came home. She didn’t say a word.

You can work on your ‘splaining during the quick trip. Buy the large can of Spaghetti and a big container of Abby’s favorite ice cream.

Personally, I’m predicting Abby WILL be back at the house before he is…and waiting to give him a chewing out.

Those kids look plenty old enough to say home 20 or 30 minutes by themselves.

Don’t need to be a psychic to hear the alarm bells going off.
