The sign on the right should also say “Defund the FBI”.

There was a time when the US cared about democracy and equality … rather than having authoritarian narcissists pretending to defend irrational right-wing hypochristian morality.

Defunding the police is NOT and has NEVER BEEN part of the democratic platform, only a stupid slogan by some extreme left nutcases who are NOT IN CONTROL of the party.

It has never been a part of the the Democratic party’s platform to defund police. A few extremists used this phrase but no one ever wanted to act on it. Some Republicans have advocated defunding the FBI. And of course, they have always hated social security and other safety net programs. The only platform the GOP has ever loved is cutting taxes on the wealthiest among us. The recent Prime Minster in England just did that, and their inflation rate shot up way beyond ours and their stock market plunged. That’s what you can expect if the GOP gets back in power.

Defund police – dumbest slogan ever. It almost cost my Democrats the House in 2020 and it’s still hurting them in 2022.

You nailed the QOP, but not the Democrats.

We’re free radicals, if you want to push that comparison.

Republicans are getting a lot of mileage from the misinterpreted “defund the police”. Cutting waste.. repurposing.. applying some common sense to programs that became redundant years ago.. are foreign concepts to republicans.

I thought that “Defund the Police” was GOP propaganda, because the original concept was to fund more social services so the police would have more time to deal with crime that didn’t involve family discord. The underlying problem with policing and family services is the prevalence of guns in every situation which puts those trying to help in excessively danger.

Whataboutism… quite blatant considering: “Republicans aren’t being hypocrites about the FBI and the Mar-a-Lago raid—they’ve never truly cared about effective law enforcement.”

’Greene is only the loudest voice in a chorus of conservative politicians and commentators—including Representatives Paul Gosar and Jeff Duncan, as well as MAGA Republicans from Candace Owens to Liz Booth—who are also calling for the defunding of national law enforcement, as well as far more lawless violence. Trump-pardoned felon Dinesh D’Souza called the FBI a “gang of dangerous criminals” that should be “shut down.” Colorado’s twice-arrested House freshman Lauren Boebert also demanded that FBI funds be dissolved. Florida state lawmaker and US congressional candidate Anthony Sabatini did his best Don Corleone impression, advocating for the FBI to be “gut[ted] like fish,” while Florida House contender Republican Luis Miguel, announced via Twitter, “Under my plan, all Floridians will have permission to shoot FBI, IRS, ATF and all other feds on sight!”

That and Democrats have not defunded the police. They have increased funding, however in many cases that funding is intended to improve training for police officers, add more police, and to deal with people having mental health issues better than just shooting them. Hiring mental health professionals to aid police departments. Not the guns, military equipment, and tanks they prefer to play dress up and tough guy during training exercises and photo shoots.

Sadly, even with these improvements, it will take time for the changes to become noticeable.

We need to get back to the cops from the ’80’s, I knew that would brag about how they could resolve situations without having to draw their gun. Some bragged at retirement that they never had to draw their gun. Don’t pretend shootings and violent criminals didn’t exist then, they very much did. However, it was a time before police wore bullet proof vests everywhere they went, so getting into gun fights was a lot more risky than escalating interactions.

The situation in rural America has been deliberately designed by 1%ers to produce MAGAts. They own the news outlets that broadcast the conservative propaganda, and use them specifically for that purpose. In some areas, the only actual news is on the local main stream networks, and they have bent over backwards for years to not take sides, even when one side is obviously lying. And, the people they have coffee with, go to church (or the bar) with etc are dealing with the same situation. That means that real people that you know and trust are backing up what you are getting from the propaganda machine. Unless you are a really intelligent, involved person, you are going to accept the world you see, unaware that it has been paid for and organized by people who are working against your best interests.

Now, consider the possibility that the world you live in is not only being exposed as fake by the real news agencies, but even Faux news has now decided they can’t keep up the hoax and will have to get real occasionally. You are faced with the situation of having lived in a farce your entire life. Can you imagine how frightening that would be? Be generous with them. They are victims of the 1%. If we don’t rub their noses in the situation and support them, they may be able to see the truth.

And it wasn’t even a Democratic policy. It was just a statement from a couple of Democrats, used as a broad-brush attack against the entirely.
