What I want is a storage device that’s bigger on the inside than the outside. AND well indexed. Oh, and located as close as our car shed (about 20 feet from the back door)

The only time I had to use a storage unit was when I was doing an internship in another town. Had to vacate my studentflat, so stored my furniture there for a while. If I would have to much stuff, I would downsize and take everything I don’t need to a goodwill store. (We did that during our move to this house and now I don’t buy anything that isn’t strictly necessary).

What percentage of stuff gets moved out after the contents are sold at auction after the tenant goes bankrupt?

Total misuse of the term “statistically insignificant.” That term refers to sampling.

When a sample is taken, there is a chance that the sample does not actually represent the population. When comparing two samples, the difference obtained must be large enough that we’re confident there’s a real difference between the two. Thus, the difference must be large enough. (This is affected by the size of the samples.) When it is, it is “statistically significant.”

You see this in political polling. When they say one candidate is ahead of another, they also give the margin of error. If the difference is within the margin, they are (statistically) the same because you can’t be sure. The margin of error is a function (largely) of the sample size. So, if the margin of error is plus/minus three points, and the candidates are two points apart, they are “within the margin of error” and, thus, tied. The two-point difference is said to be NOT significant statistically. The calculations are more complicated than that, taking into account how varied the samples are (standard deviation), the sample sizes, and the level of certainty sought. But that’s the basic idea.

There’s a storage facility just down the road from Gillette Stadium in MA. A number of Patriots fans rent units there and have turned them into tailgating man caves, complete with generators to power lights and TV’s. Some people have installed those clear plastic strips that refrigeration facilities use to keep the cold air inside open doorways. They can walk to the stadium and later can wait out the monstrous traffic jams in comfort.

Sounds like women are both more materialistic and weaker. Is that what you find funny?

Self storage is a set it and forget it industry.

I would take a shot that a high proportion here are widows and sons.

We started putting our stuff into storage in January in preparation for selling our house. We finished when we sold the house in April and finally went back to get everything a few weeks ago. Every month the storage place raised the rates until we were paying over $650 a month for 3 units.

Had one for about 6 yrs at 75 bucks a month. Fish tanks, some furniture, misc crap. Finally got rid of it. Only things I kept, were some LP’s , a few books, and a 1940’s credenza.

How much of the stuff is the guys’ stuff that the women don’t want cluttering up the place, but the guy refuses to get rid of it?
