So, Covid’s impact, supply chain issues, worker shortages, increased worker wages, increased corporate profits, Russia invading Ukraine, etc. are SOLELY American problems that Biden alone should have fixed yesterday, huh?
Notice that inflation plays for the Red team. Inflation is one of their star players. Always gleefully placed on the field by the Red team whenever the Blue team is doing too well. The Reds have no problem hurting the fans in the stadium, as long as they win.
The Red Team motto: “The worse things are, the better things are.” Reds don’t want a good quality of life, otherwise they can’t blame the Blues.
Actually, she got it right, though she likely didn’t intend to do so. The pig representing inflation is running DOWNHILL. Which is correct. Inflation in the USA is down, way down.
Which, of course, is why you only hear about it on “annualized basis”, because reporting that inflation was essentially zero two months in a row won’t generate those all important hits and clicks. Nor do we get a mention that long term inflation rates, and the target rate for the FED, is about 3.25%. Given the amount of time we spent below that level, and were very close to entering deflation, we’re just getting back to normal.
You’ll never hear that from “click and panic news”.
Lisa seems to be praying that people will panic and vote in the party of irresponsible tax cuts. But I think she knows, and the party leaders know, that the public always votes on how the economy is perceived as MOVING, not how it is. Otherwise, Reagan would have been a one termer.
Cue the trolls with made up stuff. BTW, trolls, the gas price here just dropped more than 20 cents from the “OPEC announcement” bounce. Evidently, cooler heads remembered that OPEC cuts are almost always vaporware.
@Rhonda Santis- I don’t see Lisa as being negative. I think she’s just depicting what Joe is going up against. And I totally agree with you about the Senate. They’re still ticked off about former Idiot #1 not getting reelected that they’re throwing every type of roadblock and curve ball they can at him! One good thing I’ve seen is that here in NYC, gas prices have dipped to below $3.30 a gallon for regular.
Considering how little power any president has in controlling inflation, it was not politically bright for Joe to say in the State of the Union that tackling inflation was "my top priority”. This is the gorilla you dump on the lap of the Fed.
Inflation is not a one country problem, happening around the world, if you haven’t noticed. Joe may or may not have an impact, but at least he’s trying. Is the opposition doing anything to help?
Please excuse the repost, but here’s what Lisa thinks would be better: the Republican “platform.” They won’t write it down because too many voters might read it, so I did it for them. Despite being in the minority, members of the SCOTUS, “Conservatives,” RWNJs, and white supremacists are attempting to drag this country back to their imaginary Jeffersonian agrarian idyl. The 1790 census (when Jefferson was Secretary of State), counted 5.3M Americans. Only white males owning 50 acres or more of land were permitted to vote, approximately 6% of the population. Free white men who did not own land, free white females, and slaves could not vote. In 1790 the American population was largely rural, making a living by farming. Our most recent census counted 332,403,650 Americans. Current estimates are that 83% of Americans live in urban areas. They do not work at farming. Of course, a country of 300-plus million Americans requires a larger government than one with only 5.3 million Americans. Nevertheless, in pursuit of “small government,” the following are conservatives’ goals for their “Jeffersonian” America:
1. No women’s rights.
2. No civil rights for people of color, or for any other minority groups.
3. No immigration, other than Caucasians.
4. No labor unions.
5. No health insurance.
6. No legal recourse due to Republican-packed courts.
7. No social security.
8. No disability insurance.
9. No minimum wage.
10. No free and fair elections (ultimately, no elections).
11. Imposed state religion; government funding of religious schools.
12. Unregulated militias unchecked by Republican-packed courts.
13. No work on mitigating climate change; no environmental protections.
GOP politicians don’t care about the environment or mitigating climate change because they intend to stay permanently in office and use their money and power to take over remaining livable locations as environmental conditions worsen. Republican leaders don’t care if America dies as long as they can feed off the carcass for their lifetimes.
How many Americans would have to die or be virtually enslaved in jobs with less than living wages for this “platform” to work? Why do you people who support today’s GOP, Trump, and Trump wannabes think that you will come out winners under this regime?
Wardingo: Anyone who reads any news in addition to Faux can see multiple daily examples of each and every item in my post from Republican legislators, governors, state legislatures, and purblind RWNJs.
Hmmmm. Inflation as a feral pig? With a football theme thrown in because it is the season? A really nonsensical analogy but at least this time it is original.
This is the bizarre perspective of Republicans. Their contention is the Biden is DELIBERATELY ramping up inflation. Why would anyone do this? There is ZERO value in a politician doing this… Also, inflation is not a decision, it’s an outcome of complex, systemic dynamics. Stupid cartoon.
to be fair, Biden gets blamed for everything. It is really difficult to accomplish much as President when your party controls both houses of Congress and the Bureaucracy. And with so much going on in the world, an occasional memory gaff is to be expected.
“Democrats have produced staggering 13.5 percent inflation since January 2021. That was shortly before [Senate Majority Leader Charles] Schumer [D-N.Y.] said ‘I do not think the dangers of inflation, at least in the near term, are very real’ and every Senate Democrat cast the tiebreaking vote for runaway reckless spending,” McConnell said.
Aside from earning a spot on the Mt. Rushmore of Senate tax raisers over his career, Durbin has gone above and beyond, raiding Americans’ wallets – specifically their debit cards – with vigor in 2010 through an amendment to the Dodd-Frank law that bears his name. The Durbin Amendment was purportedly aimed at lowering debit card fee transactions for consumers. What we’ve learned in that time is startling: Capping debit card fees resulted in higher costs for consumers, but larger profits for retailers.
Banks responded to the loss in exchange fee revenue by raising other rates and fees, eliminating free checking and wiping away nearly all of the benefits and rewards they offered with their branded debit cards. Durbin’s “pro-consumer” legislation wound up costing consumers billions, the loss of perks and benefits and priced millions out of owning a bank account.
Now, along with his friends in the big-box retailer industry, Durbin is back for round II in his ideological rumble against America’s banks, pushing legislation titled “the Credit Card Competition Act of 2022.” Under the guise of creating “more competition” in credit card exchanges used by merchants, Durbin is primed to rob consumers of credit card benefits just as he did with debit cards.
According to the International Center for Law and Economics: “the 2010 Durbin Amendment …generated benefits for large-box retailers, [but] imposed substantial net costs on the majority of consumers, especially those from lower-income households.” Economists from Georgetown and the University of Pennsylvania’s business schools found that “banks fully offset losses [caused by the Durbin Amendment] by charging higher fees.”
Durbin’s new legislation promises more of the same. Bankrate senior analyst Ted Rossman called Durbin’s new legislation “very bad” for consumers, as it will eviscerate the $60 billion in annual value they acquire through card benefits.
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The Biden administration asked Saudi Arabia, the de-facto leader of oil producer group OPEC, to delay its decision on oil output by a month, the kingdom said in a statement.
The Saudis declined, and in early October OPEC+ — which includes non-OPEC oil exporters like Russia — announced its largest supply cut since 2020, to the tune of 2 million barrels per day starting from November. That means tighter supplies and higher prices at a time of already high inflation and worries of a global recession, which angered U.S. lawmakers who are now calling for a “reevaluation” of relations with the Saudi kingdom.
Notably, the White House’s request would have delayed the decision until after the U.S. midterm elections. – CNBC
And in response, the dims do what they do best, turn it around and blame everyone else…
Responding to the Saudi claims, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby reframed the exchange and accused the kingdom of aiding Russia’s revenues and hampering the impact of Western sanctions on Moscow for its war in Ukraine.
Joek’s energy shut down policies are aiding Russia’s revenues and hampering the impact of Western sanctions on Moscow.
Inflation Reduction Act” Is Euphemism for Big Government Socialism, Higher Prices – It’s good that Senate Democrats want to reduce the deficit, but front-loading new deficits and raising taxes are counterproductive.
There is little to no regard for the high prices incurred by Americans and the costs that will arise for trying to achieve the left’s radical climate agenda.
Instead of heeding the economic warning lights, they have offered this bill, which is identical in purpose and philosophy to what created the current economic mess.
In the midst of a recession, with inflation eating away an average of $6,800 in purchasing power from the incomes of families with two workers, the so-called Inflation Reduction Act would impose tax increases, manipulative federal subsidies, and price controls on every American family.
The bill would deepen the growing recession, continue to depress household incomes, and will continue to increase prices.
The cure. Get rid of the Liberal parties that want to hand out money like its candy on Halloween. To easy. Your the problem and defiantly not part of the solution.
