Nonsense — the bloated Pentagon budget is ruining us. A third of it is plain waste. Furthermore, it was all bluster. The Chinese don’t dictate our foreign policy, and certainly not to a woman.

Same old trope. The military will be fine with controlled spending. Watching Russia and China trip over themselves tells me we’re OK.

The risk has always been nuclear. Either one of them starts to feel that they’re being defeated, that’s what they’ll resort to. You’re not going to spend your way out of that dilemma.

How many shots were fired at American targets, Mike?

    Zero.

You know why? Because the Chinese are not stupid.

You might not respect the US military, Ramirez. But China does.

I was in the Navy for years and here are two examples of waste. A metal block that cost $150 and no one knew what it was, but we had to have it. We needed to stamp 4 numbers in epoxy ink. A quart cost $50 and could only be used once. Also it smeared so we had to use a ballpoint pen instead. But hey, don’t cut that spending.

Conservatives talk about spending on the military because their base is scared little people who think there are communists under their bed. Then, they buy a bunch of guns, again because they are scared little people. Their rationale, assuming they can articulate one, which is extremely doubtful, is that they are defending themselves against the government that they don’t trust. Since that same government controls the same military that they want funded to save them from the communists under their bed, the thinking here is typical of MAGAt philosophy.

Another great ‘toon, Mike. You know, IMO your depictions of military equipment be it aircraft, armored vehicles. Etc are best among your peers.

China is the stupid one. The original idea was to show the Taiwanese how wonderfully they would be treated. Look at Hong Kong: it was free and autonomous. And over the years, more Taiwanese felt as though unification a la Hong Kong was a good thing. And then there was Mr. Xi. Once he started rattling sabers, they started to re-think. And when he flattened all semblance of what made Hong Kong Hong Kong, they now know it’s a bad idea.

China could have had Taiwan ask to join if not for Xi’s strongman hubris.

Anyone who is unhappy with Ms. Pelosi’s stop in Taiwan should admit they care more about dollars than about humans. Why should we keep shrinking every time China says they’re unhappy?

Under Pelosi, America is in deep trouble. Totalitarian Marxist Democrats must be voted out, they are corrupt and they are ruining our great nation. Vote Republican 2022, 2024

If the speaker of the house was male and a republican, the RWNJs would be saying that visiting Taiwan was a brave decision.

Only a sheeple thinks the military budget has been shrunk. It was $30 billion over what Biden put in his budget, which was still more than it was in 2021 when we were still in Afghanistan. How do you grow your military budget when you stop being in wars??? But you’re a very good sheeple, Ramirez. Keep on baaaaaaaaing for your masters.

All those on this comments board making claims that the military budget is only (enter $ here) are typically getting their numbers from right wing organizations. These groups like to count the budget for active-duty military only and exclude large amounts of money spent on the military by classifying it as something else. For example, military pensions are classified as entitlements. The money the VA spends piecing back together the shattered bodies of veterans injured in the wars? Entitlement. Disability to veterans? Entitlement. And so forth.

Think about it. We haven’t won a war since WWII, and there the Germans lost it because they were way overextended.

comrade sun, just a suggestion, you can ignore it if you like. you could temper the vitriol a bit if you closed with a sunny sign-off like brother paddy murphy – “have a nice day.” you could re-work it to fit your north korean english tone, too. maybe something along the lines of “have a nice day, running dog totalitarian demoncrat marxist scum poopypants”…

    as i say, just a thought…

We need a Ramirez vs Rall comic showdown here, because I’m told establishment Democrats, including Pelosi are bigger warmongers than any Republican. What’s certain, is that defense spending hasn’t been starved under Pelosi’s Speakership.
