I suppose you’d rather he did nothing? Bad enough the oil companies have jacked up the prices to rake in record profits on a global scale.

Biden wants a hiatus on gas taxes as a relief measure for the American people. The REPUGs say NO WAY. How much are they getting big oil producers?

For decades the ReThuglicans have fed y’all a, ton of crappola on “free market economy” and “deregulation” and “trickle down.”

And now all of a sudden it’s Biden’s fault that global industries and businesses are gouging the hell out of us and still paying a small fraction in taxes of what the rest of us pay while those unbridled businesses are making record profits, indeed massive profits? And some are still getting hundreds of billions in federal subsidies (that’s your tax dollars, y’all).

    Y’all been had!

    I’m shocked!

Jumpin’ Jesus on a Pogo Stick, if I’d have known so very many of y’all were such big suckers and such damned fools I could have made different choices and never felt a second of guilt ’bout it.

Better suggestion: Dump the full size, four door, 4×4, V-8 powered pickup that never leaves the pavement and rarely carries or tows anything in the bed for something small with four cylinders and 40mpg highway.

That such a huge percentage of the population is whining about the gas price increase provides ample evidence that we stand absolutely no chance of solving our environmental problems. The majority of people claim that they care about the environment and that there should be at least some policies in place to combat issues such as climate change, but take the opposite view as soon as there’s even a modest impact on their pocketbook. Given the environmental harm caused by our auto dependence, gas prices should be a lot higher. If gas prices get high enough, perhaps people’s demand will decrease accordingly as more people actually start to try to reduce the amount that they need to drive. But no, we’d rather destroy the planet than prompt more people to (shudder) walk, bike, or take transit.

No worse than DeSantis enacting a 25 cent off on gas in Oct. They are both pandering to the public’s vote.

And if Biden hadn’t proposed this, hypocritically speaking, Breen would have criticized him for not doing it.

Oil prices are high because of actions taken by oil companies when economies screeched to a halt during COVID. Refineries were closed, drilling fields shut down as the price of oil plummeted effectively to $0 and profits crashed. Economies jump started again in 2020 and now demand worldwide exceeds supply. The U.S. federal government has not shut down oil production, stop believing Fox and their ilk. The Keystone Pipeline was not carrying oil for U.S. domestic production, it was intended solely for export so that’s another fake issue. It takes 18 to 30 months for refineries and oil production to be ramped up again, the issue’s not going away short of Saudi Arabia or another nation greatly increasing production.

How much will we pay when the tax is reinstated + the amount to cover for the Fed gas tax holiday? Gotta pay the tax some day.

Admittingly, cutting the federal gas tax will only drop the gas pump price by around $0.30, but every little bits helps. And it shows that Biden cares.

Exxon earned $5.5 billion in the first quarter of 2022, and “only” $2.7 billion in the same quarter last year. They are claiming this is due to supply and demand, not garden-variety greed. How can they be raking in more when people are consciously driving less? AND, they still get government subsidies.

$90,000,000,000 in profits last quarter. That’s just the larger oil companies. They’re expected to make more in the next quarter. Let’s keep blaming Biden. They want it that way. Cha-Ching!

Hey Breen — took a driving trip recently and found out gas is cheaper in San Francisco than it is in San Diego. That’s messed up. And it’s proof that the problem isn’t economics — it’s greed. What’s your cure for that?

Neither Pelosi or Schumer expect to bring it to a vote knowing their parties know it will cost $10B in the highway funds that are needed to pay for the Infrastructure bill. It is all smoke and mirrors.

Just an example of oil company morality:

Back when there was a supposed “oil shortage”, (not that long ago) oil companies were raising the price at the pump several times a day, each time the announced price per barrel of crude was raised, complaining about “replacement costs”, even though that oil hadn’t even entered the system and they were “replacing” the oil that had been in system for some time. However, when the announced price per barrel went down, they waited until after that oil was processed and delivered to the gas stations before lowering the price at the pump, sometimes waiting a few days. Finally, a law was passed saying that they could only raise their prices once a day.

It is likely the oil companies will simply pocket the cash. The prices being charged are set by demand, not the cost of the product (including taxes). We pay this much because we WILL pay it. It’s called “supply and demand.” There’s plenty of supply, but demand just won’t drop when prices rise, so of course they rise! And they’ll go higher and higher as long as people are willing to pay.

People who want to blame the Biden administration always glide over two points: (1) what did Biden do or not do that CAUSED this WORLDWIDE phenomenon, and (2) what will actually solve it? Do you want big government to take over?

The high gas prices are a result of the marketplace doing what it does. If you could get twice as much salary for the job you do, wouldn’t you do it? So, why blame the oil companies? They’re just charging what the market will bear.

Recent story in the NYTimes claims that Brits are paying the equivalent of $9 a gallon at the pump. I wonder how Biden made that happen?
