^Remember when Republicans were a legitimate and somewhat respectable political party that didn’t shrink away from truth and facts like cockroaches scurrying away from a bright light?
The previous administration cared not one iota about the assassination. The previous administration’s relationship with Saudi Arabia influenced it’s decision to withdraw from the Iran deal (how’s that working out?). The previous administration’s support of SA in its war in Yemen is extensively documented. The previous administration supported a blockade of Qatar even though the US has major military institutions in that country. And that’s not even getting into the intertwining, grifting tendrils between the “families”.
As for Biden’s visit, why not see how it plays out? THEN start your kvetching. To me, he’s damned if he does (for good reason), and damned if he doesn’t(you know, oil prices). To pretend it is something new rings of Louis in “Casablanca”, “I’m shocked, shocked, to find gambling going on here.”
But Biden said he’d make SA a pariah state. Maybe he’s not there to beg for oil. Maybe he’s there so he can take MBS behind the gym and beat the hell out of him. I hope he brought some back up, preferably Corn Pop.
Two things that will not happen with Biden’s visit. 1. He will confront MBS on the Kashoggi murder. 2. SA will accommodate Biden’s request for more oil production to the west. (No prediction on how SA will treat production to China).
At least he isn’t there to wave a sword, dance badly, and put his hands on a glowing orb, right Baghdad Bok? Sometimes you are forced to deal with those you don’t like and not eagerly revel in it.
Sit on it, Chip! ………“At this point, it is hard to disentangle overall inflation from surging gas prices. Last week, the national average rose above $5 a gallon for the first time in U.S. history, and it should only increase, given the summer driving season. Gasoline alone accounted for about 20 percent of inflation in May, and fuel also factors into the transportation costs of virtually every good. Many explanations can be offered for the spike, from generalized inflation to post-pandemic supply disruptions to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to the unwillingness of Wall Street to invest in domestic production after severe losses in the past. But President Biden has now correctly pointed out a different driver: a lack of refinery capacity.Yesterday, the president sent a letter to seven leading oil refiners, stressing how their profit margins have tripled in 2022 to a record high, and urging that they take steps to reverse the loss of 800,000 barrels per day of U.S. refining capacity in 2020, the last year for which we have statistics. Globally, the reduction is closer to three million barrels per day.” ……….from THE AMERICAN PROSPECT https://prospect.org

Bok didn’t like Khashoggi either. He told the truth, something Bok is highly allergic to.

Remember when our relationship with OPEC was completely different, because America Oil Exports were a major threat to their monopoly?
Biden gave all that power right back to the Oil Sheiks and Mullahs.
Think of all the civilizing influence we could have had over Middle Eastern Countries. All gone.

It’s interesting how recency bias and “facts” join together to create such a skewed view of a long, up and down relationship.

I like the pictures on the net of Trump bowing before the Saudi king to get a necklace.
And then there was the time traitor Trump saluted the N Korean general.
